Occasionally, they have it on sale for $99. If you plan to keep the truck long term, I would suggest an update every two years. The map update also includes a Uconnect update to the latest revision.

Did it - got my money back .. not anywhere near up to date for an update. indicates speed limit is 55 mph on any road off the main roads. Ver disappointed.. and a PIA to get your money back.

That is an issue with the company that provides the map updates. It is the most up-to-date information they have compiled, but it is not the most recent information available. There updates have to be designed for installation on and distribution by fixed media, where Google Maps and the others are all online and stored on a server in a data center.

I should probably update mine.

Last year, I went to Hatteras (with my camper) and driving into Rodanthe, they have constructed a new bridge vs. the old road.

My Map had me driving over the water and kept telling me to turn around to get back onto the original road

Yes, the new road is now a bridge over water about half a mile (out over the water) or so from the old road that you cannot access from the north anymore.

Google maps is free, or there are other alternative options that probably have better navigation than uconnect.

I’m not sure why anyone with a smart phone would do it. I would never trust a map that’s updated every few months over just asking Siri or opening google which is updated several times per hour. CarPlay rocks. I’ll never drive another car without it.

Not a JT, but I own a 2014 Chevrolet Camaro SS. It has navigation, but I’ve only used it maybe twice. I never upgraded the maps and have always used google maps. I really don’t know why manufactures even offer navigation.

Isn’t the nav saved on a hard drive or SSD?

If so, might be useful to have and update for those situations w/o cell service.

I use my phone and an app called Back Country Navigator since we do a lot of off road trails. Lots of map options and it goes everywhere with me. Can download maps so its easy to go off line and still have the maps I need. 150.00 seems like a lot for a map update but that's just me.

8 inch comes with 5 years of Sirius traffic.

I updated mine in the Overland. Bad news for all you old folds that think its too much money. When its time to bugout and there is no cell phones, you will be lost. LOL. Willing to pay $140 on crap but not on a software/map update.
Do it or dont do it! If you had a Garmin Overlander you would be updating the crap out of it :)

Just a bit over the top don't you think? Its too much for me. Your needs may be different? And I am already bugged out my friend. Remote does not mean out of touch.
