Each to their own, I prefer to have options and I'm not complaining.

I don't plan on having it bypassed anywhere but in my garage.

These connectors are not easy to get to, nor are they easy to unplug. Granted a Z Automotive extension would make it easier for a crook, but if they want your Jeep bad enough they will get it no matter what you do.

Someone educated enough about these connectors probably also knows about the unsecured, much much easier to get to, canbus connector behind the glove box.

Besides, why even have the SGW connectors if they are going to be glued and not to be used? Jeep could save dollars to not have the SGW bypass connectors on every wrangler and gladiator going forward.
True, but each obstacle will prevent some thefts - even one as simple as that.
There will be thieves only equipped for certain scenarios, and there will be thieves that will know and have the equipment to connect into the bus in other ways.
The connector difficulty will stop at least some. In fact, in some places, maybe the most likely, in other places, not.
It's a lot easier to reach up to the SGW and connect in than open a locked glove box and remove it and connect in that star connector - not as many will be equipped for that.

Yeah, those connectors at the SGW are easy to get at and easy to unplug - for a whole lot of people. Some, especially younger, have no issue getting that unplugged in 15 seconds or less. You can count on that. They may as well have mounted the SGW on the dash as easily as some people can reach up and unplug them.
Look at the posts here over the years - someone says they have a #@$% of a time, while 2 others say - really? Mine came out in seconds.

I have from day one thought - really? Put a firewall where a kid can reach and unplug it and put a $20 bypass in there and get around it?
i come from the IT security world - and jeep screwed the pooch on that so-called "security" as simple as it is to access and bypass.
I'd bet you'll find a few here who can reach up and unplug that without any issue.

Shoutout to @dos0711 for stopping by and he was able to get the deed done. They weren't glued afterall. He has my twin gladiator in a 2022, said he didn't recall it being as difficult when he did his. He used a long narrow flat head screwdriver to hold the tab in while yanking on the wires and got them both to come out. I was hesitant to pull on the wires because I did not have to when I did my wrangler a couple years back. I guess that is the secret, and now that I have the extender plugged in, I hope never to have to find out.

Many thanks, hope I can pay it forward someday. He also had some awesome tips for me about a few other Jeep things and mods. Great guy.

OBDII should be amended with security baked in. TO access more than read only you would need at the least a password or something to identify. We the owner can set the owner ID, and the dealer has the MFG one. A dealer could reset the owner ID as well in case of loss, or change of ownership. And this should be applied to the can bus as well.
