Thanks for the feedback everyone. I know I won’t break any speed records but I believe my gladiator is capable. I might get air bags to help the squat along with a good weight distribution hitch.

The mopar receiver is 2 inch right? Just want to verify before I order my WDH.

I just pulled my setup for the first time and am very happy with how it pulled. like others have said, a good WDH and proper setup are key. My trailer tongue weight is 510lbs with an unloaded weight on 4500lbs. I’m estimating being closer to 600lbs tongue and 5500lbs loaded. Manually shifting helps a ton and don’t be afraid to let it rev out when it needs to. I got 9.5 mpg in decent winds pulling on the highway and in heavy traffic going 65-68. Don’t be in a hurry and I think you will be just fine

I also have air bags but honestly rarely use them. If youre going to move forward with the travel trailer id suggest getting it and a WDH first. Then if you still sag after its all dialed in look at the bags. unless your flush with disposable income then you could get the bags ahead of time and have them ready.

IF i use them i dont inflate past 10lbs and really all they do help control the bounce a bit since my WDH does all the work of leveling me out.

Good point. I’ll wait on the bags until after the first tow.

Can you take a picture of your hitch shank? I’m curious how high to adjust the ball.

Top of the ball is supposed to be about 21”, dealer told me that and he was right. Your WDH should have adjustable height, install the WDH and don’t tighten bolts up until you get height right. Facebook can be your friend for getting a WDH, I got a Blue OX Sway Pro for $200, like new works great. Also when setting your camper up, the rating of the bars should not exceed the actual weight by too much, in my case my 24’ camper has a 380 lb. tongue weight but that used hitch had 1000 pound bars, found a set of take off 500 pound bars at my dealer for cheap. Blue Ox factory receptionist even knew all about the hitch, said that the Sway Pro pro relies on the bar being under tension and a little bent for the sway prevent to work, and it works great. I just bought a used 8,000 lb camper to set up on the Bay in Delaware and guy gave me the WDH that he used. Look around there are a lot of real nice used hitches for sale…..Jack

Use you tube or instructions to set it up but this is how mine looked after a quick hitch up at dealer in Vermont for ride back home to Pa. , 7 hours. Measure the height of your fender front and rear before and after setting up hitch, the rear should be closer or just a little low and front should be about the same but not higher. Your Jeep can tow that camper but will know it is there, mine has a curb weight of 3100lbs.and GVWR of 4100lbs. It is comfortable to tow and Mojave handles it great….

I think its going to depend on where you are taking it and how loaded it is. I tow a few times a year with different campers with my mojave and pretty much all of those campers were roughly 1000 lbs less dry than yours. I'm usually loaded with gear and fresh water tanks and I'm in Utah, so lots of elevation changes, but I feel I'm at about my limit for where I live and what I'm carrying.

I only travel with empty tanks. Between food and clothing I think I add about 600 pounds so I think I should be in good shape.

Follow up question regarding tongue weight. I know the Mojave has a limit of 600lbs but the rubicon can go up to 700lbs. Will I do damage to my truck if I have a hitch weight of 650lbs fully loaded?

from an article I linked about over weight tongue

“The simple answer is: if you accidentally overload the trailer tongue weight over the recommended 10%, it may lead your to go over the rear axle Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR) and the total payload rating of your truck. This is a serious safety concern. It means the axle springs will be fully compresses / riding on bump stops. The truck may develop side-to-side sway, the extra sag will point the nose of the truck up in the air, truck’s braking and steering ability will be compromised, and the ride will be uncomfortable.”

i dont necessarily think 50lbs over is going to be the end of the world. But going beyond the specs isnt a sound plan IMO.

totally get that however I have the same axles as the rubicon and it can handle 700lbs of tongue weight. Just not sure why it’s different for the Mojave.
