Kevin reading your post, dang we've definitely crossed paths a long time ago. Hearing about the Right coast runs n Tellico. ? I was active with some of them 99-02 when I wasn't doing traveling for other things with Army. If you remember a ragged white XJ that was probably me.
Darrell - I do in fact remember someone from Alabama with a white XJ running in the same group once. I re-joined the Army in 2002 after a break in service and was stationed at Ft. Benning for 8 years. We probably crossed paths more than we think. I had a little group of fellow Jeeper's that would make the trip to Tellico as often as our schedule permitted. I miss that place, the trails, the town of Murphy, the people, the landscape.

I truly think the TJ brought people together and created a new era in Jeep clubs and off-roading. Look at all the new manufacturers that came to be in 1997. The 4-Door JK brought us back down to earth with the daily driver soccer mom becoming the majority Jeep owner.

So I may have missed something over the years, or I may just be blind on here. But years ago when I had my TJ(maybe some others can vouch for me with this) and was on the TJ forum all the time there was a specific section for people who were planning trips be it camping or day trips and they could post for members to tag along.

It was a great way to meet new people who are into the same hobbies and can share knowledge as well as maybe see new places if you were not familiar with places to travel to or not comfortable doing so on your own. Depending on the trip the group leader would sometimes have requirements like lockers or a certain size tire etc.

I know here we have the staging areas and trip journals but I never see anything about planning groups going out on those threads, is there no longer a place to post for people who specifically want to plan group trips for members to get together? Or is it just something that people don't do anymore? I just used to see multiple trips to multiple places back in the day on the TJ Forum almost every week.

So I'm just curious did they change the forum or is it just something that is no longer as common with people now? This was also back when I lived in CA so maybe it was more common on the West Coast than here in TN now?

Just wanted to get some of your guy's opinions or see if I'm missing something.
Here's how far the last meet up went...

If the infamous @ShadowsPapa is coming to Florida................
Does anyone know where I can buy a bullet proof vest? ?
We've driven our Jeeps down to Sarasota and St. Augustine twice so far. We tend to hit Siesta Key beach when there and my son lives near St. Augustine.

This time, my nephew is getting married at Clear Water which of course is a short drive from where we usually visit, and, we've been talking for the last year or so of visiting the area of the "Swamp People" - see what Pierre Part and similar areas are all about - check out the food, see if we can see some of the places shown on TV - maybe a swap tour (too bad Glenn isn't doing his "Swomp tour" - he's a fun character)
So the plan is drive south to that area, maybe see a load of gators come in, hang around the area, then drive east to FL, and south to my nephew's wedding and spend a couple of days down there.

My sentiments exactly.

My wife's 32-year-old niece once asked me, "how can you possibly communicate without Facebook"? I responded by saying "I communicate just fine".

What makes that funny is my remembering an episode of NCIS LA several years ago, Kensi and Marty were after some bad guys and a person of interest was some younger girl, maybe 18-20 and they were having words. The girl called them old and said "I bet you even have facebook accounts" or words to that effect. She was saying only old people use that (even thought Marty and Kensi were far from "old".
My son has even said that only older people use FB these days (he graduated in 2000)

I was at Ft Stewart then, on the right coast and had made a quite a few of the "right coast runs Tellico" as often as I could too. Some of my best time during my time stationed at Ft Stewart was getting away to Tellico.
I've got not many good times from Ft. Stewart and 3ID after wearing that damn patch from 95-02. I wouldn't wish being in 3 ID on anyone especially after 7 years of experiences with it. I had to ETS to get away from it.
:like:

I think you are right on "Wrangler" creating many Jeep Clubs. I'll hack in the Wrangler not just the TJ. I remember quite a few YJ's. The Wrangler was a "starter" vehicle for many H.S. and college kids. I'm sure many parents bought them for the kids for a safer vehicle in bad road conditions.
The internet changed the off-roading community's, brought many companies, people and groups together. It definitely changed the building off-road vehicles, from extreme to "the most mall crawler". That would give the Philippines "Jeepny's" a run for their money. ? That helped with keeping many CJ's around, being companies in Philippines are still building MB' and CJ bodies and frames.

I tried Tinder once, but the girl who showed up wasn't driving a jeep. At least she was a girl.

Level 3A or Level 4?
Heck I've got a few 3A and Level 4 plates. The latter would probably draw more fire though and heavy. :giggle:

Well at least one out of a hundred aren't bad. ?
Right???

It's just crazy to me to think that it's not as common anymore considering how popular it's become to be an "overlander" or something similar, especially with how many people want to do trips to post on YouTube? Other social media platforms. It's a bummer
There's a big difference between sharing a trip after the fact and going out with a big group.

I don't like group events for a couple reasons, the biggest one is that I'm going out in the woods/desert to not be around people for once. The next is because I learned from motorcycle group rides that you should know and trust the people in the group. I did Jeep Safari last year and it took all of 15 minutes before some idiot with his dick in his ear decided to "take the hard line", nearly rolled his jeep and shot a rock about 24" around down the hill into the vehicle behind him.

No thanks, I will go out alone with a satellite beacon or a few close friends I know aren't limp-dick tryhards with something to prove.

Yep, trial run and if they don't mesh, than no further invites.
