Not a Jeep gladiator post, but my wife limped into our local Discount Tire with a flat on her 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L with 5000 miles on it. She had a screw that was too close to the sidewall to patch. Pirelli Scorpion Verde tire in 265/50/20. They charged her $507.75 for a new tire and it wouldn't be available until Monday 4/7 and they put her full-size spare tire on it for her. I was gone for the weekend and didn't have a chance to help her out. and give her advice on what to say.

After she told me the cost, I was like Bullshit, that tire is not a $500 dollar tire. After going on Discount tires website, its a $304 dollar tire.. Even after they sucked her into paying extra for the "lifetime warranty" certificate which is $39.20 , the total comes out to $390.15 mounted, balanced, and out the door pricing. No where near the $507.75 they charged her.

Yes, they did her a favor of putting her full-size spare tire on the vehicle so she could keep driving the jeep over the weekend, but to charge her an extra $117.60 dollars is insane. I have bought probably 10 sets of tires from this particular store for them to take advantage of a woman is horrible.

I plan on taking her Jeep GC tomorrow to get the new tire installed and asking why the cost is so much. Depending on their response, it will affect my decision to keep buying tires from Discount Tire. I was ready to buy a set of 37's for my jeep this week as my 35's are about worn out, I don't know if I will or not.

Yea, that's BS.

Wonder how they are going to justify that one.

ETA: I've had great service from the Discount Tire we use in Reno.

I take discount tire with a grain of salt with their tire monkeys. The first visit there, they broke a lug on a 2001 F-150. The second time with the same vehicle and different wheels, they destroyed an o-ring that held the center cap on a Centerline wheel and tried to tell me that it was dry rotted. I was watching the "tech" and saw that the idiot (and not a particularly young guy) was trying to force the center cap back on with a screwdriver with no lubrication, and I brought it to the attention of the manager.

These incidents were at two different Discount Tire locations.

Both times the issues were resolved by them, but cost me my extra time.

The last two experiences at another different location have been decent.

I have nothing but great experiences with discount tire and have bought pretty much all of my tires though them for the last 10 years. I also research the costs before going in so I know what I'm looking wise for pricing. But to take advantage of my wife in her time of distress, is just wrong.

Completely agree. Let us know what they say. I just don't see how they can justify that price.

Very curious here too. It is tough to see how they can justify the price, but I'll hold off judgement until you get an explanation.

I would absolutely challenge them on this, and escalate it to corporate. Sounds like she got the "dumb girl" treatment, which is unacceptable.

Discount gas always been straight with me, I've only had two problems in all the years I've gone there and they made it right both times.

My wife and I had an issue with Discount and our C7 Corvette. Similar instance, screw too close to sidewall, limped into nearest store. At the time there were shortages on the specific ZP run-flats that car had, and these guys had 2 in stock at another store nearby, so we left the car in order to get back to work. Come back, they had damaged both rear wheels and also the front bumper had a huge scuff across it. And of course they tried denying it saying that was there before the work was done, luckily I had just taken some photos of the car with date/time stamps, so boy did they back pedal fast. I will never go to a DT store again. I heard they bought out Tire Rack so I'm leery of even using them now if that is the case.

Always had great experiences with DT.

They didn't give her an actual receipt? I priced it online with the maintenance and everything and it was $407.73 OTD with the protection plan. Seems odd that it's exactly $100 more than what the online "normal" price would be.

Only been to Discount Tire once to have new tires mounted and balanced. A week later I noticed that one of their "sticky" weights had fallen off so I brought it back. Instead of saying "sure, we'll take care of that" I was questioned about "if" there was any wobble in that tire? I asked them if they would have placed a weight there if it wasn't needed?
In the end they did nothing and I have never gone back to that or any other location. NEVER! I know members have nothing but endless nice things to say, I was once one of them, but it wasn't here at this Texas location.

@mtudb24

I see you tagged @Discount Tire ...

Doubt you will see a forum reply from Discount Tire in regard to this thread/issue or any more forum posts in general on this forum or the sister JL forum.
https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/new-support-option.132082/

Both Discount Tire and Tire Rack are in essence, the same same . Since 2022, Tire Rack has been a part of the Discount Tire family.

DiscountTire Direct, website was shut down in favor of using Tirerack.com.

Note> @mtudb24 , I suggest you call the hotline mentioned in the link I posted before, again before you go to the location to deal with your issue.. Let corporate deal with the local store for you.

Discount Tire in my area has a great reputation, but they quoted me $400 dollars to dismount a set of tires from rims and mount them on a new set of rims with with a road force balance.

IDK, seemed expensive. The associate was nice.

I was hoping i could pay someone, but looks like ill do it myself lol

Every location is different, some are run by great people and some are run by shitheads. I have a good relationship with my local Discount Tire and they know the level of attention to detail they need to put into the work they do on any of my vehicles.

With the amount of traveling I do it's nice piece of mind that if I have a tire issue I can go to any DT store and be covered. I won't get that going through any local shops.
