Off-road camper options for the Gladiator

I've kind of been eyeing the Taxa Cricket. Expensive, but would fit my needs pretty well. They have an Overland Edition option coming out for the 2020 model year that is lifted 4", has a Timbren axle-less suspension, and a pivoting hitch.

Oh I checked those out at the overland expo. I like them a lot. Very lightweight and cool looking. Im not sure how people sleep in the flip down bunks though? Also that price is a bit high. Otherwise I really like them.

Holy crap. I don't want anything to do with that. I think how easy it is to fix is important. I would rather get something less expensive and have money to fix it. This is one problem I have with getting an offroad one from the other side of the country. Whos going to fix it? Also I found out rv dealers prioritize their own customers for repairs so that's another thing top consider unfortunately.

I am generally disappointed in the build quality of all but the very most expensive off road campers. For what some of them cost I could spend a lot on nights at the HI Express.

I know. I think about all the trips we could take with that money. The only way i justify it is knowing that my kid needs to be out in the woods and travel around a lot. Also, when my wife kicks me out for some reason, I'll have a place to stay.

Wow that really blows up into a lot of sleeping space! See that is the what we are missing here in the US. I've been looking a lot and most of the options are for 2 people. Kids are just an afterthought. Like having to make the dining area into a bed for kids sort of thing. If want something that will sleep more, good luck, its going to cost you. Or that most hardshell rtt are for 2 people or if not, they are exceedingly expensive. I do like the patriot campers and the bruder ones especially, but I'm not taking out a second mortgage for one. I really like the vans, but again, they are marked up 40% here in the US vs Europe and thus cost as much as a house. I'm glad you found something like this that seems to have just about everything. Although I wonder if you've had any issues with the soft vs hard in Australia? Maybe dingo or roo attacks?

Most things you worry about in Australia crawl! The most deadly spiders and snakes on the planet.

When children are very little (under 4 and/or small) you may worry about a Dingo attack (but to be honest there are few dingos left in the wild! Near us is Fraser Island - the largest sand island in the world - google 4wd on Fraser Island for some spectacular videos - and home to a big dingo population. You do need to watch for them and never leave your kids alone. They have dedicated camp grounds surrounded with Dingo fences for safety.).

I've not heard of many Roo attacks in my 15 years here. The Roos can be very dangerous if cornered or injured, they will lean back on their tail and eviserate you with their hind legs if attacked!

I have barely looked at camp trailers in the US, but what I've seen is the tear drop and that's not really my style! Good thing about AU trailers is they are made sooooo damned tough! Australia really does have some of the harshest 4wding around and if that's not bad enough it's 1000's of miles long. So if your not at the top of your game for vehicle and trailer, it will shake it to bits!

Wow, that is an epic piece of garbage.

We're super happy with our XT from boreascampers.com. It's a beast and will take way more abuse than our tow vehicle. We need to get a Gladiator to match the camper's off-road capabilities. C'mon diesel!
