If you enjoy the topic of oils and chemistry, it's a fun place to geek out.
Also temper that with the fact that it's a forum with all sorts of members and some of them aren't exactly accurate. Ignore those and it's fine. Some good deep chemistry there at times.

That is any forum to include this one.

True,
but a lot of folks point to BITOG as if whatever is there is fact and true. It seems to carry a lot of weight, more than most others.
Great info there for sure, but I ran across two people totally off the mark on base oils - when all they had to do was google it, but they were touting it as fact.
That forum gets pointed to a lot, carries a lot of weight with folks.

On a running average you are going to get better oil advice over there than anywhere else. I can find more than two people that are blithering idiots (one of them maybe me) here and I do not discount the place.

Been a member over there since 2003 and I will admit 99.5% of it is just passing stupid commentary with most just barely know what oil grade means. There is about 20 or so core members over there I would say really know their shit when it comes to oil and spend any frequent time over there and you will figure them out. That 20 or so is a running cabal though.

Agreed - it's pretty easy to figure out who to ignore and who knows their stuff.

I was hoping to see your transmission #'s not an example.

I have never done it with a transmission. In fact, my JT is the first automatic transmission I've had in a good while.

I am having thoughts of sending in a sample when I change in in the next month or so. I will certainly post it up if I do it. My only stumbling block is that I want the $35 to offset the cost of the $287 PPE pan I'm wanting to put on there. I've already changed dinner out plans with my wife to dinner at home tonight to save another $100. But my curiosity is strong with this....so maybe. (Please don't tell her. She hasn't figured out my pattern of behavior when trying to buy Jeep parts! LOL!)

Since ZF transmission failures are actually rare and most go the distance without added fluid changes between new and recommended, it would be interesting to see.
Even on the internet in Jeep forums, the 8 speed failure is quite rare (unless your name is Kevin and you live in a place abbreviated CA)

Yes, it would. I'd love to see the makeup of wear metals and it would give us a good snapshot at the first 60,000 mile mark. It would be a good baseline, I think, because the transmission appears to be performing perfectly.

I might just do it. It'd be some great fodder for conversation, for sure!

LOL, the good thing is that she loves the Jeeps! So when she figures it out, I'll at least have that to give me a chance to remain unscathed! :like:
