All my deisel oil is gallon jugs. Most other oil weights come in 5qt jugs is what I see.
Yeah, diesel is a different animal. Uses more oil and very different oil. I used to pump it from 55 gallon drums when I had the diesel rigs on my farm.

He needs to check.
One oil I use in one of my cars is 5 quart jug but looks like a gallon so it's a good catch up there in this thread - he needs to read the label -

He could literally be getting GALLON jugs!! Yes, it's out there - popular oils -

So it's possible he's getting a popular, respected oil at a store in a gallon jug, or he could be getting a popular respected oil in a 5 quart jug - depending.

If he uses AMSOIL, it may be just a gallon.
If he uses Mobil 1, it may be a 5 quart jug that looks like a gallon.
And then there's many others out there. A biosyn I use in some cars comes in gallons. It ain't cheap to buy as I have to buy 2 gallons to get enough for 1 change. Then next oil change I buy 1 gallon and so on. Luckily I only change that one once a year due to the low miles it gets each year.

The fact that the op is no longer replying is telling. I think this is a dead issue.

Well, I do hope he at least comes back to read the bits about "look at the label on the jug" - I feel dumb for not having thought of that since I have on my own shelves - quarts, gallons and 5 quart jugs that could be mistaken for just a gallon.
That was a really bad miss. So I hope he at reads some of the subsequent posts.
Otherwise, nothing more can really be said....

What oil you buying that is coming in a gallon container and not a 5qt container?

About the only oil I see being sold in one gallon jugs is diesel oil grades and some boutique brand oils like Redline.

Off subject, but when you change your oil on the diesel, do you torque the filter ? Curious of everyone's method. I didn't have much luck using the common ratchet style... so I found a digital adapter and then stumble upon a torque limiting socet... the torque/oil pressure seem to be sensitive to each other.

That's not really technically trolling.
It's just confirmation of cognitive deficiencies.

So besides your excellence in graphic art, you are good at psychology as well.

Okay I’ll run to the store tomorrow and buy another quart ! Thank you so much man. Do you think I’ve caused any real harm to the engine this is the 3 oil change I do myself and have always put a gallon.
One of the original Pentastar design engineers told me that all FCA/Stellantis engines are designed to meet all performance criteria either a full quart low or a full quart overfilled, so you should be just fine until you top it off.

Nothing new - that's the way with most engines I've come across. There are some older engines that don't like to be any beyond that at all, but 1 either way is not killer or problematic.
Amazes me to see people getting really stressed about being 1 over or 1 under - I mean, you don't normally add oil until you are a full quart low anyway - at least most haven't over the decades.
The 1 quart low mark always used to say "add", not "she's gonna blow, cap'n!"
