Overland or Rubicon

Here is my overland. I'm happy with my choice. It would have cost significantly more to go with a a Rubicon that had the features the overland had and I got a good deal on it since it was left over 2020 stock. If I could have gotten a Rubicon for just 3500 more with the same features, I would absolutely go with it.

So far I have not had a need for lockers and I have wheeled it quit a bit.

The only thing I don't like is the gearing.

You will never hear a Rubicon owner say I wish I got the Overland! For the difference in price get the Rubicon and don't look back! And i know you have time to upgrade, but the best upgrade I could have gotten for my Rubicon would have to be the Tazer mini! Opens up a lot of off-road options!

That’s a pretty clear case for the reason rubicon in my opinion. Not a big price difference.

I agree, and I’m learning there are some differences between Diesel Rubicons and 3.6 Rubicons. 3.73 vs 4.10 and Diesel doesn’t look like it gets 4:1 t-case either. Which I think gets these closer in money.

I went back and forth for a while, finally gave the nod to the Overland I figured I'd eventually change out tires, wheels, bumpers, suspension, and who knows what else anyhow! Lift is AEV, tires are 285/70 18 (34"). I thought about 35s, but I feel the extra weight and diameter would necessitate changing the 3.73 gearing; if I'm going to spring for a regear, though, I might as well do lockers and RCVs....

What is auto brake limited slip in the front diff? Is this a feature with the Overland?

It’s a standard feature that all Gladiators have. The other poster was probably confused by the trac lock limited slip differential, which the rear differential. I have that option too.

No. It means you like that type of ride. I like the way mine rides better now. It still rides well and is pretty forgiving on bigger bumps, but the ride is more controlled.

For that small price difference i'd definitely go rubicon as it will make most of the difference back on trade/resale alone not to mention getting the stronger, wider axles, taller fenders, hood, lockers, off road modes, etc

I was all in on the Overland yesterday until I saw that the Rubicon to be exact will cost me 3932.00 more this got me thinking and hence why I created this thread. All the advice here has been great and I have learned a bunch. Do I need a Rubicon probably not, an Overland is more than capable, for sure. I would lift an overland and run at least 35s so I think ride quality is negated. I have electronic rear locker on my F-150 which I have used quite a bit. The front is an added bonus.

I gotcha, when I think Cadillac I think sublime regardless of application, so that’s why I figured better.

If you have the tow package you get larger holes in the grille for towing specifically

I’m talking the actual width and height of the opening behind the grill.

All gladiators have wider grill openings than JLs, but now I’m curious if my tow package Overland has a different grill width than a non tow pkg model.

You’d probably get some of the price difference back in resale value. I didn’t think about that.

My situation was different. I bought mine in 2020 and there was about double the difference in discount available on Overland vs Rubicon. Since I was buying a $54k msrp vehicle and was pushing the budget already, that made a difference. I was on the fence till I saw that. It was like a $10k spread.
