I hesitated posting this because of the zillions of posts and threads about tires/rims. Everyone has an opinion about the best combination for a specific application which is certainly valuable information when making a decision for your Gladiator. However, It can make it even more confusing....

Let me ask the question this way: is anyone running 285/70 R17 Michelin LTX M/S2 on stock rims on their Gladiator? (Or Agilis or LTX A/T 2)

I rarely go off road and want a quiet ride, durability, and good performance in wet (only occasional light snow) conditions. Having many years experience as a technician and buying tires for my vehicles, I've always had great results with Michelins - when installing tires years ago as a tech, they were always the "roundest" and rarely needed many wheel weights for balancing.

BTW, has anyone noticed the price of tires from a year ago? Thanks for tolerating this post!

I'm running that size tires on my stock rims, but they are Falken Wildpeaks. The original tires were 245/75/R17's. The newer Falkens are about as quiet as the factory tires, and every bit as good in rain and snow or slush. In the Texas heat, over 100 degrees or so, I'd say that I hear a little more road noise, but it's not much.

Overland has 18" rims so doubt anyone is running 17s without swapping wheels.

I really like the Generals on my Overland for Iowa type driving - wet, slippery, snowy, etc.
I MAY step up just one notch in size - maybe to a 32.8" like the Rubicon uses instead of the 32.2" the Overland comes with.

Thanks. My mistake - 18" rims don't do well with tires meant for 17" rims. In any case, are you running 285/70?

I tried to match the stock Overland diameter and just a bit of added width.

I might go up one notch next time..........

I was running stock wheels/tires the winter after purchasing my overland and due to that it spent most of the winter of 22/23 garaged-

I had good luck with goodyear tires on my f-150 and was going to buy a set for my jeep overland, with a bit added depth like ShadowsPapa went with the General tires... but I priced the goodyear duratrac's at about 1100 for the new set installed on my stock rims.. I bounced the idea around of buying a set of takeoff's from someone here-- and ended up finding a guy willing to part with his set of '21 mojave take-off's with their stock falken wildpeak tires (less than 200 miles on them) for under what I was going to pay for the new set of goodyear duratrac tread.

I went with the take-off's and never looked back... I have some sand bags in the bed-- (as i did with the stock tires, as well- last winter) but this thing is now a monster when it comes to winter driving... and the look with the mojave rims / wildpeak tires is steadfast.

I'll switch back to the stock rims/tires in the spring-- (just have about 7k miles on them) but will be looking forward to coming back to these in the fall. (only have tpm sensors in the stock rims/tires... so have to keep a closer look at tire pressure with the mojave rims,,, and have a constant tpm alert on my dash, but it's not so annoying that i'm willing to add the sensors.)

Go with what makes sense to you... but keep in mind a lot of guys sell their stock mojave/rubicon rims/tires online if you want another option.

I had two sets of Michelin LTX AT2s on my previous Tacoma. I was happy with them at the time, and they did yield fairly good mileage. They're probably a fine match for what you're describing - high quality, relatively light and efficient. Not especially cheap, I recall. I punctured two sidewalls on sharp, geologically-young rocks in Death Valley. I figured at the time, probably nothing can stand up to DV rocks

Now that I'm in a much more capable Jeep and doing more Jeep things making use of that capability - they now seem pretty antiquated. They have the small, tight tread blocks that used to be common on ATs, whereas newer A/T tires are all moving to the larger, staggered-block intermediate or "recon terrain" style that's halfway to a mud tire, but without the noise and mileage penalty of a M/T. The Falken WildPeaks that come stock on the Rubicon are one example of these, as are my current Yokohama X-ATs. I've been amazed what these will put up with when deflated and getting pinched and squished in the rocks - those LTXs would have shredded.

I know, you don't think you'll be doing that kind of thing, but if they come out the same price (I'm guessing they will) I'd rather get one of the newer style tires.

Michelin LTX M/S2. Great tires. Ran them on 2 different Grand Cherokee's. Got great mileage out of them, 50,000 miles.

We have good luck with the Cooper AT3 4S tires on our company trucks. The trucks are driven through some muddy conditions regularly also and we rarely need to put them in 4wd on the job sites. The michelins have always been a good tire but I believe remember a guy at one of the local tire shops saying the old LTX MS was a better tire than the LTX MS2 for longevity.

I have no clue if they make them in that size, but the Cross Climates are amazing in rain/snow and super quiet. They do have a directional tread though, so you can’t rotate all 4 normally.

Are you asking about tires for Overland use, or tires for the Overland model?

The Overland model comes with 18" wheels, so the specific tires you are asking about will not fit.

I replaced the factory tires on my Overland at 55k miles. I kept the stock size, but went with a AT style instead of the street tires. https://www.discounttire.com/buy-tires/goodyear-wrangler-all-terrain-adventure-with-kevlar

I ran that model tire on the Super Duty I used to have. It is exactly what I plan to install if my Wild Peaks ever wear out. I don’t need the all terrain for my driving.
