I love the idea of a diesel. I just really wish they made a configuration that allowed for a max tow capacity with the kick butt engine.
Yes they do have that truck, it's superduty

Hey guys and gals, Sorry if this has been addressed previously, but I can’t find a definitive answer so far…

I have a ‘21 Rubicon eco diesel, and I am in the midst of some home projects that are going to require moving some paving stones. What is the max payload that I can safely move with the truck? Most answers I see look to be about 1k pounds, is That accurate?

Also, is that 1k pounds the “recommended“ max payload? What could/would happen if I went over that?

TIA for any input, and before I get slammed, I am asking so that I am NOT the idiot on the road Lol.
look at your door jamb. Ever Gladiator is difference based on options.

I thought about the diesel but not enough payload or tow capacity which is contrarian to what some think because of big trucks. So I went with Sport S Max Tow

You can haul about 6250 lbs if you use a trailer instead of the bed.
Yeah, but the cost of delivery outweighs buying or renting a trailer lol.

I have a plan now though that involves not overloading the vehicle. I was just hoping that I was wrong with what I thought.

I don’t regret me decision for the diesel one bit. The added fuel economy, reduced emissions, and extra power are worth it. The times that I have had a loaner, I hate how much the pentastar and the transmission have to work to make power. The diesel is so smooth, its an entirely different beast.

And there is one reason I have kept a little utility trailer I got years ago - amazing what can be hauled with it, and it's a tilt trailer!
Then there's my car hauler - I could put 2 tons of load on it and still be under my tow rating.
And it's also a tilt bed and sits lower so it would be an advantage in multiple ways.

If it makes you feel any better my dad just picked up an Ram 1500 with a 6ft 4in bed and the same eco diesel motor that we have, his payload is only 1,400lbs on a truck which would make you think offers more payload. My JT maxes out at just a hair over 1,000lbs.

According to the scales at the local landfill. I had 1,400 lb of old flooring tile in the bed of my JTRD. Aired the rear tires up to 45 psi. The front end sat high. Drove 16 miles to the landfill. Just took my time.

OK........I got my flame suit on.

Don’t think I want to share 23.785 square feet with 3 other grown men! Especially if they weigh 250 pounds each!
That was a little larger than I had in mind. Even if you dont load up the dog that would be over the max payload.

I took my 160 lb nephew and (almost) 300 lb nephew on a ride with me and I could definitely feel the extra weight. I usually drive alone. I did have close to 200 lbs worth of 2 dogs in the back too so I guess I was about maxed out...

My thought always was that a medium sized truck + a right sized trailer could do almost any practical task a full size truck could do.

I think I have the lowest payload available, but if anyone has anything lower let me know. My payload on my JTRD is just 899 lbs.
