So I'm looking to get a portable air compressor, something that will run off the battery, and not a "built-in" air. I'm looking to get it for those times I perhaps go off-road and air down some (right now and for the foreseeable future I'm on stock street tires) so I can air back up before getting on pavement AND in the event I need to put air in our camper tires.

I'm looking to get this: Viair 300P Portable Compressor Does anyone have any experience with this? And, although I suspect I know the answer, how does this compare to, say, one of those little jobs that plugs into your cigarette lighter you can get for $30 at AutoZone? I'm presuming it's no comparison, the Viair will push out more air, faster (CFM) and to a higher pressure (my camper tires recommend about 50psi).

Granted, I know I'll have to keep myself amused while I work my way around to each tire of the Jeep and this likely won't be as fast as a good on-board air system, but should it be good enough?

I have heard a lot of positive experiences from users.

I am personally thinking about buying this one

OK, yep, the auto-off makes this a better unit, especially if I'm using it for our camper, I won't be able to get the Jeep close enough to keep the compressor close to make it easy to turn off.

The wife, of course, will look at the price difference and play the "but I could turn it on and off when you need to," and I'll trump that with the "and if I'm out camping solo, like is the plan for at least once this summer? Will you drive the 3hrs to the campground to turn the compressor on and off?" ?
Then she'll glare at me while I grin like a maniac at her.

I have the 300P and a ton of experience using it. Got it for a previous truck with much smaller tires, but I’ve been using it to inflate two 37s at a time on my gladiator, and it does just fine. 37s are way over its “rated” capacity but since I already had it, I figured I’ll just run with it and see what happens

I did a post on my build thread about it:
https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/...ith-alu-cab-canopy-camper.64951/#post-1099097

If it does blow up I’ll get something rated for simultaneous 4 x 37 inflation with a selectable auto shutoff. Definitely would consider another Viair

I have the 450P and love it. I have a Morrflate system and it airs all four tires at the same time from 15 to 37 psi in roughly 10 minutes.

I have the 300P that I bought for filling my motor home tires that needed 80 pounds. Use for the Jeeps and it fills the tires in 10 minutes or so. Gets hot as hell but I live in Arizona. Always fill all tires and never have run out of duty cycle.

I carry a small co2 bottle.

Not a bad option either, although I kind of prefer the ability to air up frequently if needed, without having to find some place to fill the tank later. :)

Ultimately it’s your choice :) not arguing… I had the same mentality for a long time… most towns have a welding supply stores, and bottle swapping is way easy. Bottle storage/mounting can be fun/challenging. But the refilling isn’t that bad. :)

Last December I went through this same scenario, studied all the compressors until I was blue in the face! Finally I went with MorrFlate system. Love the speed to refill the tires, always the first one done on the trail! Compressor never gets boiling hot from use. Now I use the fill hose on all my vehicles so I know all 4 tires are at the same pressures.

OK, that's a darn tempting combo, my only concern is the comment on the compressor about:
This compressor is not designed for 1 tire at a time. You can still air up a single flat if you need to, but the duty cycle dwindles to 2min doing 1 tire at a time. Airing up an entire vehicle, 1 tire at a time, will damage the TenSix. It just simply puts out too much air and is optimized for 4 tires at a time.
Mainly because of my need to occasionally air up one camper tire (or my other use on the road of airing up bicycle tires,) I'd be concerned about potentially burning out the compressor...

I need more coffee…. :)

I am going to order this and give it a shot- it would be nice to have all 4 tires be equal without going back and forth….

just from a curiosity stand point, how does this reduce compressor temperatures?

Anyone else chime in and have experience if they freeze with co2?

Doesn’t have to run very long with the dual cylinders so the heat will not soak the entire compressor'
