The Grand Cherokee batteries are very accessible under the passenger seat, great design. The Gladiator, another story. I went through the Jeep Dealer, $617 included 2 batteries, install through fender liner, and safety inspection. Done Right. Because there are two batteries, its easy for someone to create an arc that fries a relay or fusable link. Dealer takes responsibility if that happens.

I'll admit, as I get older, I don't wrench as much as I used to. I used to find it enjoyable, now, not so much. Oh, I'll still do the little tasks; engine and cabin filters, little things like that. I have an oil change plan with the dealership that costs less than me buying everything myself then have to deal with getting rid of the used oil, etc.. I absolutely HATED driving around to get rid of the oil. So I ended up with quite a few jugs of old oil in my garage.

However, I did decide to change out both batteries myself. I went "over the top" as opposed to "under the fender". For me, it was MUCH easier going over the top; I can work easier reaching down than reaching up. My arms tire out quick reaching up. Yes, I replaced both batteries, that whole aux-battery-delete option was not desirable to me as batteries last 3 or more years. If I had to replace it every year, I'd look at the delete. Every 3 years or more is nothing. Kept it factory.

What I wasn't prepared for was the weight of an H7 AGM. Sure, lugging it over to the garage to trickle charge it up to full was...interesting. Then having to lift it up chest high (I'm only 5'6") to clear the fender/engine bay to gently put it in the tray, man that was an eye-opener !! After I put it in place, I thought to myself, "Glad I pee'd before I started this !!".

The reason I decided to change out both batteries ? I started getting that "Start/Stop not available, battery charging" warning on the dash. When I was at the dealer for an oil change, I asked how much it would cost to replace both. The service tech said, "2-3 times what it would cost for you to do it yourself".

So I did. Not a big deal as I won't have to do it again for another 3 or so years.

Im on four years with my batteries. Auto start / stop still works perfectly (on the odd chance I forget to press the button). Guess they are holding strong.

Mine lasted 5.5 yrs, but the ESS will stop working if you don’t drive it regularly for 30+ min. My girlfriend loves my Jeep so I have her drive it to work in Atlanta once a week. It runs better and the batteries stay charged. I replaced my original 2019 batteries last year. My Jeep doesn’t get driven regularly enough anymore.

Mine lasted 5.5 yrs, but the ESS will stop working if you don’t drive it regularly for 30+ min. My girlfriend loves my Jeep so I have her drive it to work in Atlanta once a week. It runs better and the batteries stay charged. I replaced my original 2019 batteries last year. My Jeep doesn’t get driven regularly enough anymore.

Oh yea. 70 miles a day, 5 days a week. Those batteries stay hot

But why do it every 3 years when you could do it every never?

A lot are in the trunk too. They last a lot longer when not subjected to under hood temps.

Old VW bug. Had to watch out with them. If you put a too large of a battery in. If a heavy person sat down. The springs in the seat would ground out on the battery posts and start a fire. Seen it happened.
