I even got a chance to get it put it in 4 wheel drive (Hi and Lo), disconnect the sway bar and hit every mud puddle I could find on a gravel road. So, now it is a little dirty. Looks good that way.

Take the doors off? Hmmm, it's illegal [probably] in Washington State. But I coulld take the top off when it's not raining which might be in late June or early July.

Most states you can drive without doors. I think Pennsylvania is the only state that prohibits driving without doors. May need to replace mirrors that were on the doors depending on state laws.

Long link, I hope it works. The short version is a newspaper columnist asked a Washington State Trooper if it is legal and he said it isn't. According to the law, if your vehicle came with doors, you must have them.

I said it is "probably" against the law because an argument could be made that the law was intended to cover those cases where a door is removed on a vehicle to which it was permanently attached. One would probably lose that argument.

Well, that's just dumb. Granted, the more protection the better, but does that mean you can't take the top off also? I can't see you losing in court over something dumb like this, and would venture to say as long as you're not being stupid, cops probably aren't looking to pull you over.

Either way, stupid law.

Seems to me that if a vehicle is designed to have doors off....and its allowed to be sold (i,e meets state requirements) with removable doors in whatever state...how could state justify making it illegal to drive without doors?

I think the rub in the WA and PA statutes is that they say something like "as shipped from manufacturer." As long as the doors, as shipped from the manufacturer, remain on the vehicle it meets state requirements. Once you remove the doors, it violates the statute and doesn't meet state requirements. It may meet federal crash standards with the doors off, but states can, and do, have other laws that are more restrictive than federal laws (i.e. California's more restrictive emission laws).

It may not make sense, but sometimes laws don't make sense.

Link gave me an error but found this:
http://app.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=46.37.517
RCW 46.37.517
Body and body hardware.

(1) The body, fenders, and bumpers shall be maintained without protrusions which could be hazardous to pedestrians. In addition, the bumpers shall be so attached and maintained so as to not protrude beyond the original bumper line.
(2) The hood, hood latches, hood fastenings, doors, and door latches shall be maintained in a condition sufficient to ensure proper working equal to that at the time of original vehicle manufacture.

That says maintained not attached which leads me to believe it's an operational thing not a is it there thing.

Yes. So the Washington State patrol reads that RCW as saying, "You must have doors."

I think this link will work.

Was really hoping that we had it for this trip... but looks like it will now be on the dealers lot for a while... The dealer was waiting for like 23 cars and trucks... they took him 15... and mine sits... lol!
