Purchasing Used Gladiator, WANT DIESEL

Here is a JD Powers assessment on a low time JTRD Farout, factory new engine at 7000mi. It is priced at this appraisal amount, which is a couple thousand more than what I paid for mine (in Dec 23). This is a dealer price.

Traded in my 2019 JLU 3.6 just to get the JT Diesel. Needed a truck, and only wanted the Diesel after towing a 1500lb trailer with the JLU. 3.0 is the best engine for the JT.

I actually like the 24-25 upgrades, but dropping the diesel was a non-starter for any upgrade. I did get a 2024 2dr JL as a daily driver to save the diesel for towing, long trips, and dump runs.

sold a 21 jt diesel sport with 100k on it. No major problems with any of them besides a few check engine lights remedied at the dealer. Our family’s driving patterns ensure all of these get a 1.5 hr drive twice a week which helps.

Custom ordered a 2023 gladiator in April of 23. It arrived in January of 24. Got a check engine light on my drive home from the dealership. Ive had 11 repair attempts on it so far, and all of the TSBs and fixes ive seen on the forums have not yet fixed my truck. Its bene out of aervice at the shop for approximately 4 months within the past year.

**IF** it drives the diesel has good torque and gets great gas mileage. My positive experience stops there. No I dont recommend it. Stay away. And the moment my litigation is settled im jumping ship from jeep products. Its been such a poor experience literally 4 miles after getting it. I work in emergency medicine and I need a reliable vehicle and this truck has been anything but reliable. Ive disassociated myself from even trying to like this vehicle.

Hello All,

Finally, about to the point where I am going to replace my 2014 JKUR, she's got 235,000 miles and it's time to do something. I know that I'm replacing it with a used Gladiator Rubicon, just not sure what engine yet, going to purchase an extended warranty as well. Wanted a new one but can't justify the price. I've had the 3.6l in my JKUR and have put 145,000 miles on it since I purchased. Have driven a gladiator with the 3.6l and 8 speed transmission and it does miles better than the one in my JKUR with a 5-speed. What I really want is the diesel though. I've driven a diesel JLUR and loved the engine, everything about it from just a 25-mile drive. Obviously, I've heard the nightmares that the diesel's can be. Just have 3 questions for the diesel drivers.

-What is your overall experience with the EcoDiesel's?
-Would you get the diesel again if you had to do it again?
-How has maintenance/replacements parts gone for the diesel engine since it is no longer being produced?

BUY THE DIESEL i currently have 4 ecodiesels and have had ram ecodiesels in the past. Maintenance really isn't that much more for the diesel but it is more. Resale has been good (I'm a used car dealer) reliability we've got just over 300k miles combined and the 4 with zero issues. We have upgraded cooling on the 2 we pull campers and atv's with no issues of heating up after that. I personally will not buy a Jt without a diesel we've had to many 3.6 issues and the power is literally night and day difference. I bought a spare it's in my garage for when I wear one out lol almost done doing an ecodiesel swap into my 12 Jk that's how much I like that engine. Good luck

I have a 22 JTRD for sale, not because I want to.
Zero issues except having the new fuel pump recall done. 43k miles, warranty out to 75k.
Game changer for Offroad use, the diesel has ruined me, not sure I can go back to gas jeep after this truck unless it’s a V8.
even people that have ridden with me, they’re like, it’s so smooth n slow you just go up n over “I’ve never gone Offroad like this”. lol It’s just tractors along.

you need to remove the exhaust system and all of the smog crap that is associated with it! This is a complete abomination…there are at least a dozen probes & sensors in that system, that need to keep functioning…there is no way in that diesel exhaust system, that these can work. Put the straight SS pipe on it and block off the stupid EGR port.

you bought a vehicle that has so much smog shit on it, it can’t function! The EPA and the EU are (were) pushing this crap. Everybody is scared of the smog police after the VW Diesel Debacle. If you don’t allow that diesel to breathe, it will die a premature death. My 2001 Dodge Cummins has 276k miles, doesn’t burn oil and gets 25 mpg in a 3/4 ton truck. The diesel jeep without the smog crap will do that or better, once you put it on a diet. I knew that before I bought it…

Oh im not a fan of all the emission stuff but it should operate normally for more than 4 miles when it was new driving off the lot. It has been in the shop under warranty repairs for 5 months out of the last year. No. Its a piece of s***. Flat out. Not keeping it. I dont have 6k to put into a new exhaust while im still paying $700/mo for a vehicle that hasn't operated right for 50% of its life AND have had to get my own rentals at times. F*** Jeep for ruining what should be a good experience.

I was not a Jeep guy at all, my other 3 vehicles are a 91' Toyota Hilux RHD turbo diesel solid axle,th a 93' Toyota Surf RHD turbo diesel solid axle. and a 89' Land Rover Perentie RHD turbo diesel solid axle. All three over 35 years old and with more than 200k miles on each, just the Hilux has over 400k alone. These are business vehicles, and this past year I broke down on the trail w/customers. Knowing that my rigs are all a little old, and not wanting to be in the same situation of a possible breakdown, I went looking.

One of my sponsors (Kenda Tire) said they were starting a new build, and knowing I was a Diesel solid axle guy, they recommended the Gladiator and only the 2023 (one, because it was the last year of the Diesel option on the Gladiator, and two, by 2022 they had worked out the engine design problems. Lastly when I found out about the Farout Edition for the final year of the diesel, of which they only made 1000 (look it up), I was sold. So much so that I am trying to find another for myself and one for a friend.

All that to say, 100% DIESEL!!!!
