No Sir, current promise for RAM is on the streets in Aug. And Wrangler in Nov.

The TFL video guys said 4th qtr and of course I only think of 4th qtr as July-Sep (DoD fiscal year), no idea what FCAs is...Calender year or aligned with Gov fiscal calendar?

nothing firmer than 2021 model year for JT
"The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel will reach dealerships during the fourth quarter of this year and when it arrives, it will be offered on all trim levels. This includes the Rebel, which has not been offered with diesel power in the past, meaning that Ram 1500 owners who enjoy off-roading will soon be able to do so with EcoDiesel power."

4th quarter = October through December

If the 2021 Jeep Gladiator does offer the EcoDiesel, the big question is whether or not they'll offer it on the Sport model. It's very rare for light duty diesels to be offered on lower trim levels. Don't see that from domestic automakers very often at all.

Again my 4th quarter is July through Sep - So like I said if FCA is aligned to the Gov or Calender

Nonetheless it's irrelevant as we are not waiting on RAM

Well, I’m waiting to buy a Gladiator so I might as well wait to see what’s going on with the diesel.

Stupid question, If the engine is the same as the Ram, but less power, couldn’t I just add the tune, and intake (if there’s an aftermarket one available) and increase the horsepower?

You could, but FCA, has a flash tracker on the ecu, a tune would be noted quite promptly, and powertrain warranty will be voided just as quickly.

Here's to hoping for little to no detune

Sounds like a good case for a spare ecu...

My 2015 ecodiesel WK2 has the GDE hot tune. They claim that once installed there is no way of telling it is tuned by simply hooking it up to a normal tool. It can be checked by running it on cruise (they lower the minimum cruise control) or if a message (like active regen) which isnt a factory option pops up. Otherwise, dealers couldn't tell.

This is going to require more transmission than the 850RE which is rated up to 368 lb-ft
8(speed)
50nmx10 =368lb-ft

So the diesel in the Gladiator will require an entirely different transmission than the 3.6l gas.Since towing is de-rated with the manual transmission, likely there would be no manual option with the diesel.

If I understand anything I have read about the regen cycle I don't know how that could be implemented with a stick shift

Nothing to it. Truck sees enough back pressure and notes a Regen is needed. Truck waits for exhaust to reach operating temp and rpm and mph to be in the right range. Boom Regen started. No difference from auto with regards to stopping other than that a person could push in the clutch and let rpms drop down. Much like stopping at a light with an auto.

Beyond that if it gets too long between simple regens, the cluster would just pop up Regen needed keep driving truck or whatever the current Rams/cherokees do. I never let mine get to that point cause I could tell when a Regen was running from instant mpg gauge and how the truck was running. When it was doing one I just kept driving till it was done.

Those that get GDE tunes often opt for a second ecu and just keep the original on hand. Dealers are bad about just flashing and saying nothing. GDE charges to reflash if the dealer wiped it out with an update. They updated my truck every time I had it in the dealer for anything.

Take the truck in with stock ecu dealer wipes it with whatever flavor of the week factory trash programming, you bring it home running weird eating fuel, shifting odd, and with buttons reprogrammed to different things they didn't do before. Swap out ecu and back to 550ft/lb, smooth shifts, and a clean egr.

From what read, they started doing that in 2017ish

Ram/GC use 8hp70... articles disussing new gen 3 ecodiesel in Ram are suggesting upgrade to 8hp75.

So yeah, point being all of that will add more cost. Quite a few people are already sensitive to the price point on Gladiator, I'll not be surprised to see the final add on for diesel at +$5k or more.

Combine that with a lower tow rating because of "cooling?", and all of the reliability issues attendant with the Tier IV emissions packages, and I'll be surprised if they sell any meaningful quantities.

But who knows it may all be wonderful and cheap. I'll say after driving diesels from 1985ish to 2016, I won't be buying one again, because of the two factors I already mentioned.

The tunes are software based and you cannot alter software without leaving behind a trace, the only way is to completely reload the system, even if the coder has an all erase command it still leaves a trace. The ECM runs some tight code and we know exactly how many lines of code there are, granted finding a snippet may not be easy but we can!
