Just got back from driving Colorado to Texas and then back again. I hand calculated MPG for all fill ups.
It should be noted I have a Sport S ED with 2" Mopar lift on 37" BFG KO2's with stock 3.73 gears ... also on Winter blend diesel used in CO.

CO -> TX
364 miles, 14.569 gal = 25.0 mpg
191 miles, 8.501 gal = 22.5 mpg

TX -> CO
181 miles, 10.522 gal = 17.2 mpg (during the winter storm driving directly into 25+ mph headwind @75 mph)
306 miles, 16.398 gal = 18.7 mpg

The last fill up was at Raton, NM at which point the winds died down quite a bit. From there to NW Denver with a little heavier traffic and slower average speeds the dash calculated 25.4 mpg.

Overall I am AMAZED at the fuel economy of this engine! To be able to roll on 37's and get mid-20 mpg is simply amazing!

Great little write-up. On the lift, did you get the diesel specific? I’m assuming the 37’s/2” lift/3.73 gears are no problem for the ecoD?

Yes diesel specific Mopar 2" lift, also forgot to mention the dealer reprogrammed the speedo for the larger tire size (although according to my GPS radar detector it's close to 1mph off).

In my opinion, 37's with the 2" lift with stock 3.73 gears is a piece of cake for the diesel! It will still hold 8th gear above 60mph.

Once I tow with it in the Spring should be another good test!

We may have passed each other. I drove from Dallas to Salida, then on to Glenwood Springs. This was 2/11 - 2/12.
Got 22mpg, strong head wind.

Came home 2/15 CO to Dallas and only managed 19mpg. Coming home I was around 80~85 mph.

35” tires

Just missed you, left CO early on 2/18 and left TX the morning of 2/21. Weather was about the same with this crazy polar vortex that ran through.

Just as I've seen others say, there's a huge drop off in fuel economy from 55 to 65 to 75+

Just swapped stock wheels and tires from Sport S ED 245/75/17 Dueler AT to a set of Rubicon take offs, Wildpeak AT 285/70/17. Used JSCAN to set tire size to 32" (measured from ground to top of tire). Have been just driving around town and can notice a small decrease in mileage. Was getting around 20-21 with similar driving and in the short time with the bigger tires it's around 18-18.5. Checked speedo against GPS and was just about dead even. I guess it just takes more fuel to get the larger tires rolling?

Kinda surprising, I thought putting on a bigger tire would actually increase MPG given that you'd be more in the sweet spot of RPMs?

Although I only had 500 miles on my 245/75/17 stock tires on my Sport S ED, I've been averaging around 23 mpg on 37's KO2's now for 2,500 miles. Highway speeds of 75mph it revs around 1,600 rpm in 8th gear which to me sounds like the sweet spot, even if wind at that speed impacts economy.

First, im not complaining, even though I'm sure that's how it will sound

I'm baffled as to how you guys are getting in the mid to upper 20 mpgs. Do you guys roll down hill with a tailwind or tailgate vehicles to break the wind or what?

I now have 7k miles total and I just did a little over 1000 miles from Iowa to pensacola and averaged 20.9. No load in the bed (3 small suitcases) 600 lbs of people. Virtually all interstate, no mountains, a little rain, some headwind though nothing real crazy, 72mph. Tried straight auto mode with/without cruise, tried "manual mode" with/without cruise........nothing seemed to really help or hurt the mpgs.

Any time I'm "on the throttle" the mpgs basically drop to 14ish to single digits. I'm not the easiest on the throttle but I'm not racing every other car on the road either.

Going to put another 1000 on tomorrow hooked up to a boat. I'll let you know how that turns out.

I average anywhere from 21 - 24 MPG on a stock Willys, but haven't seen below 20 MPG yet.

Looks like you're on a Rubicon, maybe your lift/tires makes a difference?

Do you have a bed cover? That could attribute to more wind drag without one...

No, but I've had several trucks with them and at best they have had a negligible gain.

Just put the first 1200 miles on a 2021 Rubicon, average of 24.1 split between city and highway and some towing. I keep it under 65 MPH. Eco Diesel is a perfect match for the Gladiatior. Great low RPM torque.
