2002 Gladiator overland (stock 3.6L) that had an oil change at 65,005 km almost exactly 500 km after that I had a check engine light illuminate on my dash, I scanned it and it was P06DD for "Engine Oil Pressure Control Circuit Stuck Off" and P1524 "oil pressure out of range camshaft Advance/Retard Disabled" the dealership cleared the code and were "unable to duplicated conditions that set trouble code at this time" less than 100 km after paying for an hour of diagnostic work the exact code comes back on I am going to be taking the Jeep back to the dealership. I personally think that my oil pump is going, when I started it up this morning to take it to the shop (closed for New Year's) the oil pressure was 8 psi. there is oil, the filter cap is tight and when it's driving the pressure is 28psi, at idle it dropped to 6 then crawled back to 9. when I took off from the light it climbed back to 30. so what do you guys think?

Either the sensor is bad or the pump is goofy. It should not drop all that far at idle. Lowest I've seen on either of mine was 29 - and that's hot. 6 to 8 is way low and would trigger the "idiot light" on older vehicles - that's how low it is. They are set to trigger at 10 to 8 psi so you were below that threshold.

I thought the oiling system was part of the engine and that the engine was part of the drive train.
Do you have that many miles on the truck the engine is no longer covered under warranty?

The Engine is still under power train, but I fear that these guys will see it as a sensor fault, and sensors fall under the electrical system... of which I am 5722 km over for warranty coverage on the "bumper-to-bumper"

If they replace a sensor and that's not it - make them fix the actual problem and not charge for what you didn't need.

He has 40392 miles. Don't know what the warranty is in Canada. 36,000 miles would be 57936 km. So he may be over the mileage for warranty work.

Chances are it's a sensor.

Perfect point. Honestly, I just want the jeep drivable again, if it's a sensor cool but let's fix the freaking issue. I be damned if I'm going to pay for another "can't replicate fault" diagnostic"

There’s an oil pressure control solenoid that regulates the oil pressure based on several variables (rpm is the primary). Maybe that solenoid has failed? I would think that would be under the powertrain warranty.

Yeah, it's an electronically controlled 2 stage pump and anything with the pump or control should be covered (opinion of course)
Too bad the pressure sensor is under the intake not super simple to get to.

Well it's going into the shop in the morning, fingers are crossed that it's under warranty and that parts are readily available! I'll keep you guys posted!

Okay, Update! They took the truck in today and I told them that I wasn't super pleased with the fact that I was returning after 100 km (62 miles) with the exact same fault... 2 hours later they called and told me that they want to replace the pump under warranty and that the jeep should never have left the shop in the first place... the parts like all parts in Canada are overnight away So when I go back in to pick it up in 3 days when they are done with it I am bringing my bill for the initial diagnostic and politely asking for a refund.

Thanks for your help and thoughts @ShadowsPapa and @Rusty PW

Bravo and well done.
Yes, I would go in politely, logically and say that since it was warranty, and even diagnosing something for warranty should be covered under said warranty, and my bet is that them having told you what they have already told you, that you will not likely get push-back.

Now in my mind - that oil pump thing is weird. You don't see "a lot of that". For the most part they've been reliable. But then - made by humans and machines and the machines were made by humans so you know where that is leading.........

I went into the dealership Tuesday for an oil change and by the afternoon the check engine light turned on. Didn’t have this issue before and coincidence it happened after the service. Used my taser to check light and it spit out “pcm dtc p1524” and the same issue with the oil pressure dropping low to unreadable at idle.
