Yeah, i did see someone on Etsy sells 3D printed "covers" that block the top half of the light assembly.
Yes, I've seen them on Etsy but I had some Plast-Dip left over so I figured I will try it. Took about 5-6 coats, otherwise the light comes through.

You would block too much light. Just use a relay. By law the light must make the plate visible xxx feet away at night. These barely do that as it is. Don't overthink or reinvent the wheel....relay it
Agreed. One more area with lots of little holes that will get filled with dirt/mud.

I mean...all of these replies are good, and valid and fair points. But I'm still gonna try it LOL. Cuz I like designing shit and trying it out. 😜
I don't think the mud thing is gonna be an issue. The OEM plate lights are buckets, just waiting to get stuffed full of mud and I've never had to clean them.
