How can you tell if the soft top you have is a regular top or a premium top? Is it just one is thicker then the other or is there other things different about it.

My Jeep likes my money
The premium soft top has a woven fabric surface (kind of like canvas or twill). The same material is used for the factory roll up tonneau cover. The base (non-premium) soft top is shinier with a diamond pattern. It looks more like vinyl.

I do have the premium top and while I do not see 100mph in my future either... it would be nice to go 75mph- 80mph without killing my ears. This noise is unlike anything I have ever heard in any Jeep I have driven.

I also have the premium top but don't have any of the issues that are being talked about here. I usually only drive on backroads but the few times I've been on the freeway going ~75-85mph there were no issues.

I wonder what the difference is...

I have the premium top and don't have any issues after 3,000 miles with several 2 plus hour road trips. I will say that switching from a mud terrain to a all terrain tire made a big difference. By no means can you compare it to a vehicle that has a solid insulated roof but I will say the noise is not overpowering. I will take the convenience of quick and easy open air experience over the hard top any day.

Thought I was going to buy a hard top. Wound up with a soft top, wife's suggestion, and it's been great so far. Noise is there, like any convertible. Not too bad with the exception of Harleys with no pipes parked next to you in traffic.

As said before, the ease of open top/closed top makes it worth it. Especially with ever changing weather in FL.

You have to see it for yourself. There is some noise but I cant compare to hard top cause comparing to wrangler would be wrong. I have no problem and paid extra for good speakers which I use to hear no noise but mine. In town it is very quiet.

I took my Gladiator to the dealership today for this issue. My complaint was the harmonic noise in the top at 75+MPH and excessive rattles. I have to drive 4 hours each way every couple of weeks for my wife to have cancer treatments. The noise at around 80 MPH is so deafening that it hurts your ears. On top of that, the top frame rattles so much, you think the top is going to fall off. To quote the service report - " Inspected vehicle - found no leaks. - Drove multiple vehicles. Vehicle is operating as designed. Drove other Jeeps to confirm." In other words, you bought it, deal with it.

Maybe I am less sensitive or perhaps more cross wind is in your area but I only notice more noise at high speeds such as yours when there is cross wind but nothing to the level you are describing.

That heavy drone for me will start about 80 mph and higher. Did it today on a qhick interstate pass. 85 and 90 the dam thing is humming (Droning). I should try to get an audio and or video clicp for fun but they never translate well. 77MPH and less my Premium ST id not bad. I think much better then 2005 TJ unlimited with long plastic side windows and back window. My JT is just wind and ST noise under 77 MPH.

If we can figure out where it is coming from at high speeds, maybe we can bolster or pad and area?? I don't go over 75 much, but that dam truck can run!!

Yes, mine is that loud. I may take a decibel meter out and get some samples. It is deafening. Also, it is constant, crosswinds and traffic only intensify the noise.

do not think there will be much that you can do. I have insurance chip reporting on me :) so keep it under 80... but ye it does go to 100 with little effort

I was starting to think I was crazy... and asked the dealer to just please have the tech take it above 80 when I dropped it for my first oil change. The tech 100% verified the noise and said he couldn’t take the sound. They have ordered me a new soft top and I will report back once I have it on. I am beyond hopeful this fixes the problem.

I'm glad you have a dealership that actually cares about their customers. Keep us updated. I've sent an email to MOPAR customer service complaining about my dealership along with some ideas about my next actions if they don't resolve the issue.

Could I ask what your next steps will be. I have the same issue.
