What do you guys think of the temperature inside in the sun? I've been reading on Tacoma forums, people complaining how hot the metal cap makes it inside.
Other threads, or earlier in this one, people have said it gets HOT. One great idea was adding a white vinyl wrap on the roof to help alleviate some of the heat. There is a youtube somewhere I saw where a guy tested the temperature outside and inside then compare it to the same with the white wrap on top - it was 5-10 degrees cooler with the white wrap consistently.

Got my Smartcap EvoA from High Lift Off-road delivered last Friday. They had them in stock!
I put it together and installed it over the weekend.
Seems like RSI got the spacer size figured out. My cap came with 8 spacers all the same thickness. I put one under each clamp and one towards the rear on each side per the instructions.
Everything lines up nice. With the tailgate closed the weatherstripping on the rear door just grazes the tailgate and closes easily and seals nice.

Really impressed with this cap!
It’s well built and the fit and finish is excellent!

If anyone wants specific, more detailed pictures let me know.

I did this to mine. It cost me $90 and about 2 hours.

the other day when it was sunny and about 85 out, I shot the inside surface of the top with non-contact thermometer.

the metal under the white was 90 deg.

the metal under a black section was 145 deg.

Where does everyone with the RSI Kitchen mount their propane tanks?
Where does everyone with the RSI Kitchen mount their propane tanks?
I don’t have the camp kitchen but it appears people sit the propane tank on the ground while using the cooktop.

I did find a propane mount not sure how’d you place it. (See link below)

This was in an introduction to RSI thread. It was part of a reply from RSI.

As for the SmartKitchen, we’re currently integrating a Suburban two-burner propane stove into the fold-down unit, along with a slide-out cutting board. There is an integrated supply hose with a regulator that is long enough to reach the ground where a propane tank may be placed.

I am going to do this to mine too. Should have been smart and done it before install like you!
Was thinking of this wrap, but don't think it will achieve the cooling level of all white...

Clearly not all distributors are alike. I am still awaiting on my EVoA that was ordered Feb 8th.

Looks great & great to hear the temp differences, thanks. I plan to add the white wrap whenever my smartcap finally arrives.

I placed an order for one at Northridge 4x4 knowing that they were on back order. A month later Highlift Off-road posted that they had them in stock. Jumped on it and ordered one right away and canceled my order at Northridge and got a refund.

Depends on when they placed their order. I called around different places until I found one with an order expected to arrive within a couple of weeks & put a deposit down to hold my EVO A. The timeline was correct & it’s been installed for a few months now.

Offroadalliance has been quoting monthly deliveries for months. Not happy with them. Everyone else locally wants to install as well & charge another 750 for that so I thought I had to go online. Big mistake it seems.

I was going to go with off-road alliance. On Their website it said free shipping over a certain $ amount then I found out I had to read the fine print & it wasn’t included it swayed me to look elsewhere. That’s why I started looking locally at approved retailers & I found it at accessories inc. I think they charged an extra $250.00 for install which I felt was about right.

$250 for install is a reasonable number because it would take someone who has done it before about 90 minutes to get it out of the boxes and assemble it.

It took me about 4 hours to open all the boxes, do inventory, and then assemble. But I had a fair amount of head scratching time. I cold probably do it again in 2 hours. So 90 min for someone who does it normally is probably right.

Throw in another hour for install and adjustment.
