like WXman said above the second battery is not a normal battery. It is used to power electronics when the engine shuts off at a stop light etc..

If you want to really install a true dual battery set up Genesis Off-road sells a very well thought out kit. It’s not cheap but it is the best out there..

Thanks for the video. As I watched it, several things kept coming to mind. First, how in the world will I ever change my spark plugs? Second, can this kit be used to easily self jump start (answer from way down in comments yes--there's a pushbutton not mentioned in the video--just like on my JK Benchmark Designs kit)? Third, a 7 mm socket? Now I must not only keep track of the 10 mm, but the 7 mm--and did I hear brief mention of an 8 mm socket!? Good Lord! ;-)

The question I have is how will the heat generated from the engine affect the performance of the panel over time...

I bought this system a year or so ago to install into my campers. One of the reasons I went with this besides it’s small size when folded up is that I can orient it directly towards the sun regardless of how my truck is parked. I’m hoping to put together a system for the Glad once my Alu-Cab canopy comes in and I can start putting things together. The Redarc system mentioned above sounds like a great possibility.
