Hi all - I am looking to swap the plastic bumper on my Willys with the Mopar Rugicon 3 piece steel bumper. Will the weight of the bumper weigh down the front end or is it light enough where it does not? Also, not looking to add a winch.

ive been wondering this as well.

im sure it does weight it down. but does that weight make any notable difference in ride and/or front end height.

Yes, just looking to understand if I should plan for a spacer to avoid the rake from getting any worse.

Yes, it does. It's about 80 pounds. I put in Daystar .75" spacers to compensate. YES, I did add a winch, too, but the bumper is pretty heavy.
The spacer compensated for the weight and then some.

I’m adding a steel bumper to my overland, but I will have the rubicon suspension, with the Teraflex 1.5” leveling kit up front. Also, I bought the 3/4” daystar rear spacer, because i wanted some rake, but this was before i picked up a steel bumper. I’m wondering if the steel bumper will be enough alone to weigh down the front (keeping some rake) without the 3/4” rear spacer.

Anyone have any insight into this?

I will be going with an Aluminum stubby up front. The only regret I have with our JKUR is all the added weight. Between skids bumpers, sliders, and winch, I am almost at carrying capacity for the rig. On our soon to be Glady, I am determined to add as little weight as possible. Right now I am looking at mentioned front bumper, sliders and 35's. Thats it. The weight adds up quick

Mine has Rubicon front springs. I added the bumper and a winch.
The springs alone gained me roughly 1" over stock height.
The bumper and winch dropped that 1/2".
The 3/4" spacers took it back up so my net gain was 1.25"
If you don't do a heavy winch, the bumper likely will not drop it 1/2".

I'd LOVE to get the measurements from a 100% fully bone stock never been touched 2020 Overland to see just how those sit since I have since lost my original stock measurements. I was careless and wrote them on a piece of paper - in the garage. You'd have to see my garage to understand LOL. A good blood hound could get lost in there.

Well you're in luck, as I have a stock overland atm. Doing the full rubi suspension on saturday, so I will definitely take some measurements and see where I end up. This will be with the plastic bumper. Once I install the steel bumper, I'll take some additional measurements up front and see how much I drop.

Thanks! Since tires and tire inflation can impact the height off the ground, measurements from the center of the wheel/hub up to the fender would be most helpful. And of course these fenders have some trick openings so it can be hard to know exactly where to measure to.....

Looking for a good pic. I had this exact set up. Mopar steel and 1.5 Terraflex. It gave a very tiny bit of rake. Driveway was sloping down to the rear in the second pic. I think the back was maybe one inch higher frame to ground.

awesome, thank you. So are you saying I shouldn’t do the rear spacer eh? The steel bumper will be enough to give the back a little rake over the front? I plan on running stubby too, so another wrench in the weight equation

Man..... Good question. I bet those stubby Mopar are 25 pounds combined.

But.... @ShadowsPapa
Will probably verify this for me.....the springs are probably progressive....meaning it's not a linear change in height to weight.....it's probably a curve. First 80 pounds you may lose .5 in but the next 80 you may not....it could be .25 or less....

I know I did not see much of a drop after adding a winch and plate. I was rather shocked. Didn't measure it....

I tell you what. These spacers are pretty damn easy to install. Mine took 40 min in the garage with a floor jack... So roughly one beer.
I would start with the front and add the back later if you don't like it. Drive it around a bit. Let the springs settle.

That pic in my driveway I have 4 33 in tires in the bed. So a bit of weight.

I know after I did the spacers, my friends all thought it still had a bit of a rake. It was not squatting...that's for sure.

Thanks for the information! I am ok with some rake, do you think the 1.5 in the front and 3/4 in the back would look decent once just the bumper was on? Or would you just do 1 inch in the front with the 3/4 in the back or would that result in too much rake compared to stock? I have no plans on installing a winch, just prefer the stubby portion of the bumper.

For what it's worth, I weighed each end cap from the 3 piece stock steel bumper when I took mine off tonight and each section weighed 8.8 lbs. So nothing life changing but almost 18 pounds is nice when running it stubby.
