So, I am currently not with my Jeep (I'm overseas), but my folks are taking care of it. I have the MOPAR tonneau tri-fold hard cover. I noticed water was getting in a bit before I left, but I know this can be normal with the seal on some of those hard tops. This week I asked my folks if they had experienced it since they had it. They said they couldn't recall but would keep an eye out.

Today, my mother noticed a rust-colored stain in the bed on the spray-in bed liner. They didn't leave anything in there to make rust stains. They then noticed it coming down the side of the tailgate. From the looks of it, it seems like it's coming out from underneath the bed liner plastic bolted on the inside of the tailgate. I think water may have gotten trapped in there and finally ate away at the metal. Kind of sad for a truck that's less than one year old.

They are taking it to the dealership Friday, but I wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing a similar problem or has an answer. Thanks for any input. Pictures to follow soon.

I started to fluid film the gladiator as soon as I got it...don't forget to drop the spare and spray the steel wheel and all up under there.

Got a whole two bottles so I should hit it under there too. Thanks!

Still got to route this particular though because the location is weird.

Looks like to me water (or condensation) might be collecting in the support hardware in the tonneau cover.

Another vote for the Tonneau Cover hardware leach rust staining. Tailgate is aluminum and the top cap on it is plastic. That also is not rust coming through the spray on liner.

If I was the dealer, I would charge you for the visit over that.

Agree with the above suggestions that what you are seeing is not rust. Ask your folks what they are hauling with your JT that left those stains.

Actually, it’s there tonneau cover that was covered under warranty so they are suppose to fix that too. But yes, if it’s that it is kind of useless going to them. That said, I’m also not there to see it so I’m working off a few pictures and what I’m being told.
