I'm planning on using a hitch ball lock like this:
Jeep Gladiator Securing your Trailer while you venture out. 1687878111292

along with the usual hitch locking pin and locking the camper. That plus insurance should do the trick lol

Decided this would be good to watch. We don’t have a trailer yet but one day we will. Had a thought come to me right after reading the OPs question…why not just jack up one side and take the tire off and stick it in the truck with you as you tour around?

Very little. Most people are respectful. For those that aren’t, I have a 2” receiver on the trailer side. I pull the lock-n-roll out of the trailer and lock the pin back in. The second thing I do is leave my target shooting board visible. It gives people a clue That the owner of the trailer is a firearm enthusiast.

Bottom line, if they want it they will get it.

Park it near other campers. State park, KOA, etc. Not out in the woods down an obscure forest road.

Bring the valuables with you.

Once while bicycling I left a note on the driver's seat saying I took the cash etc with me and if you want the food you must really be hungry! Information and a sense of humor.

I just leave the ball clamp lock in place (as per law, you're supposed to have it locked down whilst towing so you should already have that little piece in your arsenal). They can't move it to get a ball under there so, they can't tow it away.

Trailers don’t usually get stolen. Shot… ransacked, set on fire…. Not stolen. I mean, sure it has happened… I’ve never heard of it and I was in the rv business. We had rentals and lot units vandalized but never stolen
What are ya gunna do with a stolen camper? Can’t chop shop it. Can’t register it. People get paranoid. Throw a lock through a tire to a void pranksters and you’re good. Theft like that should be behind lightning strikes in your worry meter.

I've run a cable thru the wheels when I've left my cargo trailer camper on the beach to fish further down the beach for half a day. Cargo trailers do get stolen from time to time. I have mine insured for theft.

A friend of mine had his $5000 mower & trailer stolen, the police found a stolen truck with the trailer still attached with the ball clamp still locked down and no mower , there was a 1-7/8" ball under the 2" hitch.
