I have complained a lot on this thread but I can tell you every time I start mine it makes me smile and hitting the go pedal is pure joy!
I have a 2021 Rubicon EcoDiesel with almost 5200 miles on it. Haven’t had a single issue with the diesel or DEF system. FCA is buying back to truck under the lemon law due to a horrendous persistent major water leak and I’ve been on the fence about getting another diesel. I’m much like you. My brain says get the 3.6 but my heart wants another diesel!

Just adding to the data here. My check engine light with service def came on at 1250 miles. Went off at just passed 1300. However it came back on again shortly there after at 1400 miles. At 1500 miles I received the countdown stating the engine wouldn't turn back on after 200 more miles. Took it to the dealer and they are replacing pump. Of course parts are on order and will take a week.

With the milder temperatures the past couple days, my 200 mile no start countdown timer has disappeared. I still have a check engine light so my remote start is disabled but at least it can be driven and not parked.
I was told by my service advisor that if the CEL is on along with an active message in the message center on the dash, to get it somewhere warm to thaw the def or to attempt to drive it on the highway for a longer period of time to allow the Def heaters to do their jobs. If the message goes away, that means your def is warm enough to allow it to pass the criteria needed to operate as intended, unless there’s something else wrong with the system. But regardless, they said that if the message goes away and stays away for the next 4 key/drive cycles, that the CEL should go out. If the light doesn’t go out after the 4 cycles, bring it back to the shop for diagnostics...

happening again in the same mileage range is rather concerning to hear.

unfortunately the uptick in people reporting problems is pretty discouraging.

i love the power this motor makes but if it's gonna be in the shop every few thousand miles.....i'm definitely gonna trade out sooner than later......well, either trade out or just void the warranty and move forward with a full delete and tune sooner than later.
Interesting as mine went down at just shy of 2000 miles. They replaced the pump and heater, but I didnt get 20 miles from dealer and the service light came back on. They have ordered the line running from tank to cat thinking there is a faulty check valve in it but it's back ordered. ETA 15 days so probably another week or so. They reset the engine light and running good again until the part comes in, and it's warmed up above freezing, so I guess we will see in another 2000 miles if it goes down again or before the line comes in. When it's running, it's one sweet ride.

They are replacing the pump and supply hose they called it on mine. We will see how it goes when I get it back. Not sure if this hose is the same as you are referring to.

My dealer had the parts in stock 🧐 back up and running now. Hopefully with winter dying down this won’t be an issue again (until next year).

I too am a part of this club. At 2k miles, generated the "Service DEF System" message. Has stayed on until 140 miles later, then switched to the mileage count-down message. Calling the dealer on Monday. I'll share results as they occur.
Just heard back from the dealer on mine. They're telling me it's a faulty DEF pump. Part's on order and should arrive in a week or two. They reset the codes so worst case scenario that the mileage countdown comes back, I just drive a little less until the part comes in. Pretty confident this will do the trick, based on what I'm reading here, but time will tell. Just happy they got straight to it and didn't jerk me around like I'm seeing a lot you folks are getting. Guess it goes to show that dealership or not, it all comes down to the person with the wrench and their level of knowledge and professionalism.

if it gives anyone a feeling of solace I have just over 2000 miles on my diesel now, I just got back from four days in Texas during the coldest spell they’ve had in 20 years and my JTD sat outside every night at near zero temperatures. Every morning it started up without an issue, no block heater, no garage, no problem.

I live in Colorado however my JT stays garaged every night where it definitely stays above the DEF freezing point.

For reference my build started November 18 and was delivered on 1/9/21.

I feel like some prospective diesel buyers come into this thread and are scared out of their wits to buy one, so I just want to add in here as a diesel owner that this doesn't happen across every diesel JT.

Sorry the others in this thread are experiencing this issue.
I’m Beerviper’s “twin”. I was up in CO during this crazy cold snap and mine did sit outside in low single digits and drove back home to TX where it sat outside in single digits. No issues at all. Pressed start and she fired right up with in ~2 seconds.

There has to have been a bad batch of whatchamacallits or a glitch with some people’s software.

I’m not sure my build date, but I bought 12/31. I would assume it’s build date was likely November? Late November?

These don’t sit on the lot very long around here.

PS I’m over 3k miles

It is surprising the drastic differences between dealers in expertise/ability to troubleshoot and/or fix something.

I've had my share of bad experiences but I don't ever remember getting sent home with the absurd directions some of you have gotten with this issue.

Maybe try a different dealer?

Hello fellow EcoDiesel owners. So I have owned my diesel since 10/20 and in the 17 weeks it has been in the shop for issues for 5 weeks. The first issue happened with only ~700 miles (2 weeks after pickup) and is went into a "limp mode" on the freeway only allowing a maximum of 2000 RPMS showing several codes related to the Throttle Control & DEF (see pic). I took it to the deanship where I purchased and they were "borderline useless" and after several weeks they said they reset the computer and sent me on my way.

Then on 5 Feb (~6K miles) the DEF Service light came on and I took it in to a service center that is less then a mile from Jeep Cooperate HQ as they have a diesel specialist and a relationship with engineers at Jeep if they needed to bring them in. It has been at this location for three weeks "waiting on parts".

Don't get me wrong as I love the truck which is my second Gladiator as I upgraded to the diesel after owning my gas 2020 for 13 months. Has anyone located any for service bulletins on this yet? Maybe time some of us contact Jeep? Thoughts?

Sounds like they just dont
My build date is 12-20. I have an appointment at 0950 this morning to get it checked. Hopefully they have parts in stock.
My build was 12/01/20. Maybe a bad batch of pump tank 's and heater? My pump and heater were switched out but CEL came on within 20 miles again of dealer. Now waiting for discharge line from tank and cat. Check valve may be defective that's supposed to keep residue from setting in line to freeze.

Trying to sort this out before ordering my JT. Sounds like the issue is with the sensor or DEF warming pump not operating correctly once the DEF starts to freeze or does freeze up at temperatures below 12 degrees (normal to freeze as DEF is 67% water). My question is how long does the DEF pump heater need to warm the DEF up before the sensor allows it to spray into the emission system? I’d think the heater would quickly warm up the DEF and then allow it to spray into the emissions system once it reaches a certain temp? Is the heater not warming up the DEF quickly enough thus causing sensor to read it as non-operable? Is the truck not being driven long enough for the heater to melt the DEF and introduce it into the emissions before being shut down (perhaps creating the error in the sensor) ? Is slushy DEF being introduced into the lines causing damage? This doesn’t seem like a difficult issue to fix. DEF has been around for a good while.

Sorry - didn’t review the whole thread - were these service techs who told you this? This is a deal breaker for me, at least for model year 2021. It is below -10 F where I live nearly every morning for three months. Sometimes below -20. Most of my trips are less than an hour. I know DEF freezes below 12 F (give or take a degree), but I didn’t think it would be this much of a problem. I see a ton of ungaraged HD diesel trucks in northern Alaska - do they have a better system?

doesn't a defect like that fall under the lemon law statute or something? i just can't wrap my brain around the dealers and FCA telling you guys "sorry, no fix, just drive it till you have more problems or end up stranded". not totally sure what i would do but i don't think it would be a very pleasant experience for anybody involved.

i feel incredibly fortunate the dealer replaced components and got mine operating properly......at least for now.
Don’t have any count down. Just the service message. Should leave stranded. Especially if it thaws out and starts working. But could potentially be really bad if your up in Alaska or Canada.

Just picked up the JTRD and after 60 miles on the highway I got the dreaded service DEF notification at my second stop light after the highway. Truck completely shut off and shifter started blinking requiring me to put it in park and restart. It came on one more time over the next mile and went away. Started it up a couple more times when I got home and no notification. 30 degrees and snowing out but should be a freezing issues after driving 60 highway miles? Maybe a bad sensor?
