Great story!Funny story to lighten the mood. Although I don’t have anywhere near the income of my brother in law with his Ferrari, plane , helicopter and Harley’s, I did get to have some fun with him one day... my sister had her heart set on a Jaguar at a local dealer and went to look at it but when the salesman finally came over to her, she asked a few questions, but the conversation ended when he advised her to bring her husband up there when she was ready to buy. When she told my brother in law he was pissed that this dude treated my sis like that so he had me go with him wearing old jeans and T-shirt’s. Sis had told us the salesman’s name. So we went. B-i-L walked car to car like a kid drooling over all the cars and I went straight to the one my Sis wanted. Her salesman asked me politely not to sit in the car so as planned I walked over to another salesman that had just finished with another customer and asked him to help me. We negotiated price and extended warranty and such and started the paperwork with the numbers in writing. Meanwhile Keith texted my sis to tell her to meet us there. She came in walked over and wrote out the check for her car and as they pulled her car off the showroom floor she couldn’t help but walk over and tell the other salesman it could’ve been his commission if he hadn’t been such a sexist douchebag. The look on his face was priceless and the guy that had no problem helping a 20 something kid in torn jeans and a T-shirt is the only salesman to get their business there since.
Sorry for your experience, that said you mostly got what they are trained to do. You got to remember you are talking to a person who has to ask permission to go P or even sell you are car...talk about emasculation, then he goes home at night to some woman who prob brow beats his...life is tough, whole lot tougher if you are stupid or a car salesman. So I want to test drive a rubicon gladiator (like many of you), so I went to one dealership and he was really cool. Said I couldn't test drive it because it already has 76 miles and they don't like to get them over 100. He then sat down with me and we built one out in the system (for fun). He also said if I get him a quote for 6% under invoice, he would see if he could match it. Super chill, nice, salesman.
Now... the next dealership I went too... not so much. I'm not naming names, because I happen to live .5 miles from them and they service my current vehicle. Just need to vent
So... I get a text that the Rubicon arrived!! I asked if I could come test drive it, they said what time works for me. I get there and the guy takes me out to see it. We didn't really talk at all, so I look around a little bit and then I ask "can I test drive it?". "No, we only let people test drive it if they are going to buy it", then proceeded to tell me about the cheaper options. Well, I don't know if we are allowed to curse in this forum.. so ******************** you can fill in the blanks. I am a young woman, but I make enough that I have 3k left over after bills every month.. so I could buy one right now if I wanted. Just makes me so angry that he just assumed I wasn't going to buy it (wouldn't after that comment) and that I couldn't afford it. **** him!
This happened to me when I was getting my renegade 4.5 years ago. Had a sales guy basically tell me that because I was a woman I didn't need the trailhawk. The owner of the dealership called and I'm pretty sure that guy got fired.
For reference, I'm in Maryland and could easily take a trip out to Tri-City, but if I can get a good deal locally, I would rather do that. I'm also in no hurry to get my gladiator, I want orange anyway and it's not available yet. I LOVE my renegade (my dad and I put a lift kit on it a couple of years ago) (Offroading video (pre-lift-kit): ), but I am excited for a gladiator. It's been my dream truck ever since I was a kid (I know it didn't exist yet.. but I had an orange toy truck that looked super similar).
Thanks for listening!!
You would be amazed at the amount of tire kickers . It sucks but everyone needs to be treated the same . I never had issues selling to women . Treat everyone the same and it works out, you start judging and bam your outIt's crazy that a salesperson would ever assume one can't afford a car. Why the hell would we go there then? Joyrides aren't that fun, especially with sales in the passenger seat. The Internet exists. We know what to expect in terms of price.
Yes it is a scam!. Years ago when I worked for Bridgestone/Firestone we did a complete analysis of benefits, cost and profit. We determined not to install the program in our stores because the benefits to the customer were so insignificant to be almost non-existent.SCAM ALERT: Nitrogen filled tires. Ask SalesJerk how much Nitrogen is in the air we breathe. (not likely to know)...78.09% and it's FREE! FYI, non-medical grade Nitrogen generators and be bought for well under $3k, small units for small shops around $850 or less.
You come up with the best stuff manLMAO, sorry, this is so fitting.
LOL, why did I think that? Remember their goal is to intimidate you be you man or woman and if you let them then they know they have a mark and they will try to exploit it!Thanks! That's a great way to look at it!! My background: senior software engineer, community leader, 29, look young, dress kinda like a tomboy hiker person.
Assness! Great word!We all have had the experience one way or another. Like I said yesterday an ass is an ass no matter how they choose to utilize their assness depends on where we meet them. I've had bad experiences at restaurants, from real estate agents, doctor's offices and yes car dealerships. Vote with your wallet and the business cycle will weed out the non performers. One thing that I have noticed is that, for the most part, the sales force in my area is on some sort of a salary. This was done specifically because the sales force was prejudging every customer who walked on the lot and many people who could and were prepared to buy had a bad experience. You will be amazed and how much change can be affected by a few bad reviews to a business.
