I was kicked off a local Chevy lot once (escorted off by security) for asking for $29 over invoice after showing the buyer's order from the dealer out of state and requesting to be able to do this business in my city. There is really no "other side" to this story. I was standing at a comparable Tahoe. Saleslady comes out in her golf cart. My friend and I are talking up the vehicle with her. Without a test drive, we begin a price discussion. I show the paperwork that I received via email from the other dealer one state away (3hr drive). She tells me it is fake. Then tells me that I know she can't beat that price. My friend and I respectfully wish her a good day, and at that point she calls Security over and tells us to not come back. My friend and I laugh about it to this day

That dealership is now closed..bull dozed...with other things in its place.

@WXman may even know that long gone dealership on Richmond Road in Lex.
Lexington has some really shady dealerships across the board unfortunately. I once had a really bad experience buying a used 4Runner at Auto Plaza USA. Well surprise surprise...a couple years later the Attorney General started investigating them for fraud and for stealing from customers and they ended up all over the news. It's a shame that businesses can't just be honest and treat people the way they want to be treated.

Over the 6 years ive worked for Porsche/Maserati ive seen it on both ends of the spectrum. People walking in wearing worn or tattered clothing and they can buy whatever they want and not think twice, and the people who dress and carry themselves well who cant afford to buy anything. It really blows my mind when salesman are arrogant. People are your paycheck. treat everyone equally.

As an independent professional-trade woman I pissed off a lot of dealers.... I don't dress fancy, prefer to drive my beat up rusty 2002 loud diesel excursion half the year (until the weather is nice enough to bring out my Comanche or my JT arrives) and seem to end up knowing more than them about their products. I am also not afraid to call them on stuff. If they ignore me I am sure to tell them to pay attention. My guy even stands back and ignores them if they try to talk to him instead... my favorite was when the sales guy tried to tell me gear ratios on a wrangler were adjustable through programming the computer. There was also the time when I needed a reliable commuter for my masters program and he flat out told me I couldn't afford anything in the showroom.... Fun times... and of course didnt buy from him. And three years later here I am buying a JT!

The women at dealerships and automotive anything hate me just as much... I've been told many times that I'm a threat to them most likely because they thought they were special for being "Making it in a man's world".... and in comes this rough n tumble no nonsense ED nurse who did her homework, knows her $#!+, and also turns wrenches on the side.

I don't try to pick these fights it just happens. Im no better than anyone i just don't have time to beat around the proverbial Bush.

Age, gender, income, nationality.... doesn't matter. If you are not the customer they imagined, they are not the dealer you want.

/rant.

As the owner of a couple of Porsche’s and knowing many in the Porsche community I can attest to the fact that how you dress does not have a bearing on your net worth.

One of the first people that my FIL introduced me to when I moved to Virginia was an “old farmer” in his bib overalls driving a beat up Chevy pick up. He drove up to our job site and had a “good ol’ boy” chat. When he drove off my FIL asked me what I thought of him and I said he just seemed like any average farmer and he said he just donated 25 million dollars to Virginia Tech to start a medical school...
Since that day I have never prejudged anyone.

When I buy a car I do it with banded stacks of cash wearing blue jeans and a ratty t-shirt. The sales guys hate me until they get their hands on the stack of cash. I've bought at least 7 vehicles this way...it's kind of my fetish.

So I want to test drive a rubicon gladiator (like many of you), so I went to one dealership and he was really cool. Said I couldn't test drive it because it already has 76 miles and they don't like to get them over 100. He then sat down with me and we built one out in the system (for fun). He also said if I get him a quote for 6% under invoice, he would see if he could match it. Super chill, nice, salesman.

Now... the next dealership I went too... not so much. I'm not naming names, because I happen to live .5 miles from them and they service my current vehicle. Just need to vent :(

So... I get a text that the Rubicon arrived!! I asked if I could come test drive it, they said what time works for me. I get there and the guy takes me out to see it. We didn't really talk at all, so I look around a little bit and then I ask "can I test drive it?". "No, we only let people test drive it if they are going to buy it", then proceeded to tell me about the cheaper options. Well, I don't know if we are allowed to curse in this forum.. so ******************** you can fill in the blanks. I am a young woman, but I make enough that I have 3k left over after bills every month.. so I could buy one right now if I wanted. Just makes me so angry that he just assumed I wasn't going to buy it (wouldn't after that comment) and that I couldn't afford it. **** him!

This happened to me when I was getting my renegade 4.5 years ago. Had a sales guy basically tell me that because I was a woman I didn't need the trailhawk. The owner of the dealership called and I'm pretty sure that guy got fired.

For reference, I'm in Maryland and could easily take a trip out to Tri-City, but if I can get a good deal locally, I would rather do that. I'm also in no hurry to get my gladiator, I want orange anyway and it's not available yet. I LOVE my renegade (my dad and I put a lift kit on it a couple of years ago) (Offroading video (pre-lift-kit): ), but I am excited for a gladiator. It's been my dream truck ever since I was a kid (I know it didn't exist yet.. but I had an orange toy truck that looked super similar). :)

Thanks for listening!! :)
Dang girl where were you 40 plus years ago when I was out mud slinging? As Archie Bunker would say, Those were the days! Loved your video, looked like fun was had.

No worries my friend and if I may say it out loud we all need Jesus. I don't see how people exist in the world without believing He has your back. Luckily He has your back even if you don't have His.
As a fellow Christian I must say that I like your capital H’s. He would approve too.

Oh man it’s the truth! Had some guy come in. Typical white new balance sneakers, worn polo shirt that was tucked into jeans that barely stayed up on him. Held with a belt that was way too big. This guy had every dream car, boats, and was buying his new girlfriend a ghibli!

Funny story to lighten the mood. Although I don’t have anywhere near the income of my brother in law with his Ferrari, plane , helicopter and Harley’s, I did get to have some fun with him one day... my sister had her heart set on a Jaguar at a local dealer and went to look at it but when the salesman finally came over to her, she asked a few questions, but the conversation ended when he advised her to bring her husband up there when she was ready to buy. When she told my brother in law he was pissed that this dude treated my sis like that so he had me go with him wearing old jeans and T-shirt’s. Sis had told us the salesman’s name. So we went. B-i-L walked car to car like a kid drooling over all the cars and I went straight to the one my Sis wanted. Her salesman asked me politely not to sit in the car so as planned I walked over to another salesman that had just finished with another customer and asked him to help me. We negotiated price and extended warranty and such and started the paperwork with the numbers in writing. Meanwhile Keith texted my sis to tell her to meet us there. She came in walked over and wrote out the check for her car and as they pulled her car off the showroom floor she couldn’t help but walk over and tell the other salesman it could’ve been his commission if he hadn’t been such a sexist douchebag. The look on his face was priceless and the guy that had no problem helping a 20 something kid in torn jeans and a T-shirt is the only salesman to get their business there since.
Haha! Awesome!!!

Sorry for your experience, that said you mostly got what they are trained to do. You got to remember you are talking to a person who has to ask permission to go P or even sell you are car...talk about emasculation, then he goes home at night to some woman who prob brow beats his...life is tough, whole lot tougher if you are stupid or a car salesman.

TIPS

NEVER ask if you can drive a car you are looking at a man who cannot give permission, so his only answer is NO! In addition, when you ask permission, you shift the authority to someone else.

When you walk onto the car lot, YOU are in charge, NOT them, you are the one with the money and THEIR paycheck is signed by you.

Yea, its a nice car, never drove one, go get the keys I want to drive it!!! Did I hear you say NO? Whether or not I intend to buy is will be decided upon your attitudes and ability to make a deal, now go get your boss and we are going to have a discussion about your attitude and driving this car and tell him to bring the keys. Any huma huma or BS from you are him or no keys and I drive off this lot to never return, you are NOT the only Jeep dealer in this area and right now you are dead last on my list and I stopped here first!!!

Sometimes you need to bring them back to REALITY. Look your sales guy in the eye and ask" . Who signs your paycheck here? There is only ONE possible answer! Sir, Mam, YOU DO! If you don't hear that let them know, the Owner, CEO, VP Finance, Sales Mgr, GM etc they DON'T, YOU DO! With you buying a car they don't get a check!

Yesterday I stopped off at a car dealer, I am looking for a new truck, Ford F 450 for my company. There on the windshield was a sticker with the adjusted price. It had a list of things and at the top of the list was "Lifetime WINDOW TINT", Nitrogen filled tires, chrome muffler bearings, wax job, xxx job etc. "$1295"!!! Sales jerk walks up and I look at him: See THAT, I will NOT pay that if I buy here! Well you have, we have already installed it. SO you have installed something on a truck I want to buy that I don't want, did I give you permission to do that, maybe you should UNinstall it. AND I walked away and I gave my business card to SalesJerk and told him to call me when he decided to sell a $90,000 truck!

SCAM ALERT: Nitrogen filled tires. Ask SalesJerk how much Nitrogen is in the air we breathe. (not likely to know)...78.09% and it's FREE! FYI, non-medical grade Nitrogen generators and be bought for well under $3k, small units for small shops around $850 or less.
Wow! Probably my favorite response yet!! Thanks!! :)

LOL, why did I think that? Remember their goal is to intimidate you be you man or woman and if you let them then they know they have a mark and they will try to exploit it!

almost every car I have ordered has come from another city or state. I often look for someplace I want to vacation in and do a fly 'n drive. Also makes for a good date...would you like to take off for the weekend, I have something planned...like this Corvette Museum Delivery
