What you said -
>>When I mean slippage, I mean when the vehicle is in a state in which it is trying to lock up the clutch but can't. so it searches for a gear, which keeps the clutch in a constant state slip even when the solenoid tries to engage it for lock up.<<

There's no such "state".
If you mean the converter - it locks or doesn't - there isn't any searching for a gear, and no slippage. There's no between.

Really, these are hard to destroy without some trying.

I tend to stop just shy of that little red line....
But hey, that's almost all of the tach scale so I'm not wasting much of it.......

Good memories on running a manual valve body in auto transmission and manually shifting it. Unless you are stuck in traffic a few hours. ? I could feel the heat though the floor. One AW4 transmission I ran for awhile in my XJ off-road it was great but not always the drive there n back.

Bill, don't know how my reply is quoted to you on my reply ??? Might be a android thing today.

On subject, I try to have up shifts when just driving around for economy "MPG'S" but if towing or hilly terrain no but do watch temperatures oil and transmission.

When I really want to get it, I let the 3.6 and ZF do its thing. But if I am just getting on the freeway I see no need for RPMs over 4K. By 6th gear I am doing about 70 so I put it in D and let off. Love the 4.88s.

None of your business.
Tangentially related. I manually short shifted mine for a few days over about 200 miles. I was hoping that suffering through the slower acceleration and anemia would net substantially higher MPG. Essentially created my own “eco” trans mode. Less than 2000rpm max, and tried to hold it near 1000-1200rpm at steady-state cruise. Converter stayed locked 99% of the time. No heavy throttle exposure either.

I achieved substantially WORSE MPG. I don’t remember the numbers but probably 15-20% worse. I was devastated I had suffered so greatly for such poor results.

Jeeps powertrain engineers and ZF knew what they were doing when they programmed the shift strategies.

Also, FWIW, I don’t believe the ZF8 uses any bands. Just planetary’s and clutches.

True - clutches and brakes as they call them........

For sure.
I've not been able to top it on a regular basis - just reduce hunting while towing, but not get better mpg - not honestly.
