Should I be shock and spring shopping?

Noticed yesterday leaving work and going over a speed bump that it seemed like my front end might've hit the bump stop. I went over the speed bump slow, around 5ish MPH, and when the front wheels came off the bump (and it's one of those narrow, steep on both sides, maybe 5-6" high sort,) there was a bit of a "thump" from the front end.

Some of the details of my Jeep:

• No lift
• Original stock shocks / springs (Sport S w/tow package)
• Front bumper replaced with a Metalcloak mid-width w/winch guard
• 12k Badlands winch

So I did add some weight to the front end. I did not have "bouncing" like one gets when your shocks are done for, it was a case of "down, thump, up, down, stop bouncing."

I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's ok to hit the bumpstops every now and then, even on the road.

Is your front sagging from the winch? You could do a coil spacer up front to give you a little more height and room for uptravel.

I'd say compared to before, if I recall the tape measurements I took at the time, about 1/2-3/4" lower in front.

I'd add some 3/4" or 1" coil spacers. You could even do 1.5" if you want to level it a little more.

Whatever size coil spacers you add, you'll gain that much room before the bumpstops hit.

Hitting the bump stops on occasion isn't a bad thing. I have a bad intersection that leads into a railroad crossing near my house and if I'm hustling through there my truck certainly gets a taste of the stops front and back

Just FYI, the leveling kits such as the Teraflex 1.5" come with bump stop extensions that they expect you to install - which more or less leaves you with the same travel as before, just the front end is higher. I have the Tera 1.5" in my truck with the bump stop extensions (well they bolt onto the axle side, but they limit up travel to similar as stock). In my case the extensions are desirable because at full stuff it leaves me about enough room to run my hand around the tire under the fender.

So it's sounding like I'm OK, I could maybe toss in the 1/2" spacer to get a bit more travel back, but I'm not planning to run the Baja 1000 (or any ORV trails) at any sort of speed, and so far, the speed bump at work is the only place I've noticed it...
