There is a far greater risk to damaging a JT on pavement than off. The junkyards are full of totaled soccer mom rides that never been off pavement.
Even if that is true, insurance cover will cover it if I damage it on pavement. I do wheel mine. But I'm always cognizant of the fact that I have to drive it back home afterwards, and then to work on Monday.

I don’t think anyone cares truely what someone else does with their money. It’s just a matter of function. You build and buy a Jeep and do not take it off road…? They don’t bring a whole lot more to the party. They are pretty crappy on fuel economy, the rides pretty well crap, noisy, and for $60-70k…. I’m just saying a diesel Escalade isn’t much more! ?? and that has rear seat entertainment! ?
Doors and roof don't come off. No manual. Too nice on the inside, so my toddler would destroy it, harder to park, worse visibility, and I've always liked jeeps. Never really craved an escalade. I would bet most hellcats, and even most mustang GTs never see anywhere near their potential either. If everyone is just buying practical, you'd just see a sea of crossovers. Oh, wait...

I hadn’t realized we had FBI cyber forensics on board. And no. The tone and attitude was first mentioned by your post with the sole intent to crap on my thread. Dude, I have no power over your fragile ego. Calling me that I thought I was cool. That’s all a you thing. My 1st post was only introducing myself. Was only noting an observation. But hey, thanks for crapping on it.

You’ve added text that had nothing to do with the topic. Just like now you’ve added that I’ll walk it as a joke. WTH dude? Had a bad day? Take it somewhere else.

You’ve been in this forum 2 years and I 2 weeks. You’ve added nothing to this forum but this. You just decided to crap post now?
I mean is it your thing to rise from the tomb once a year to crap post and just have to say something not related at all to the topic? Was it just unbearable to simply not say anything and go about your day?

How about that for tone and attitude now?

so yeah, calling out and stuff. Your ability to detectā€œtoneā€ and ā€œattitudeā€ over text is a figment of your imagination. But hey, no thanks for the highJack and derailment.

have fun with your garage decoration
Heh. Ok fella. Hey man, enjoy the trails. Maybe you’re not a grumpy person in real life.

You picked a hell of a time of the year to come to AZ
I farm so can go from late March to end of June and mid September to End of November. And my wife teaches so school year is out also. Not that bad. Yesterday day morning actually used the heater for a short time, was up early and the top was down with a temp of 57.

Disclaimer: I didn't read the whole thread. Seriously, this post is a few days old and blew up in RECORD TIME.

To the OP:
Bottom line is; This forum is about the Jeep JT. It's not about overlanding and world travel or travel adventure stories.

Go to ADVRider.com if you want motorcycle adventure stories. It's NOT brand specific. It's about traveling adventure, usually solo. Even around the globe in adverse situations. You'll find BMW GSA's, KTM Aventure bikes, all the Japanese bikes, some Brit bikes made in India and so on. It's not brand specific. It's about Adventure. And it is an excellent website.

I was a Adventure Motorcycle Traveler. KLR's, KTM's, BMW GSA's. Owned them, did the adventure travel.

The big difference is, this forum is about the Jeep JT. Other sites are about the Jeep TJ, YJ, CJ, etc. As I said, adventure forums are about Adventure. Brand specific forums are brand specific. Go to BMWMOA and complain that it's not about adventure stories.

If you want to read about Jeep Adventure, search for that. But as others have said, YouTube is better for that.

What you want, (if this whole post wasn't just a troll), is an Overlander website. You'll find Jeeps, Toyotas, Nissans, Mitsubishis, Chevys, Fords, and Dodge Rams doing Adventure stories.

Many from Australia and Afrika because they still have so much wide open space.

Most American Jeep people don't advertise where they go "wheeling".

I drove my jeep off-road whenever I can. Unfortunately it is not often enough.

But for what I have done to it lately:
chromoly front and rear axle shafts
Tom Woods rear drive shaft
Powerbrakes big brake kit on the front.

I didn't read hardly any of the thread but seems like people took it pretty personal. OP seemed to just point out all the people who build a seriously offroad capable expensive jeep but never intend to take it off road. I see the irony in that. It's like building a race car that you never intend to take over 75mph. I can't go crazy in my stock Mojave because it's my daily driver for work and will be my wife's when my sport s gets here. When I do take it off road, I always have my wife and dogs with me and I would feel really bad if I killed one of us (well if it was me, I guess I would be dead lol), wrecked it doing something dumb, or got us stuck in the middle of nowhere with no chance for help. But I get what he was getting at about heavily modifying a jeep just for looks.

I just realized where I made my mistake with this crowd of twisted underwear over my observation in a form where f a question, and that is I’M a first time NEW Jeep owner here. Because the rest of my Jeeps and Jeep like (except the Roxor) we’re not new off the lot vehicle. And I failed to remember that a typical new Jeep owner will be scared to take go off road, while the second owner can’t wait to take it off road. But I’ll take a brand new Ram 2500 off road because that’s just how I am. Probably you too. Yeah, the whole home to grocery store/mall to trail and back home in the same tank of gas thing.

So now I see why these guys are bent out of shape over this topic. Sorry guys. Maybe this forum isn’t for me after all. This is why I see 97% tech/mod/build/I got ducked/someone didn’t return my wave post and replies to 3% trail and actual use post ratio. At least m assured to find a nicely built or well taken cared of driveway ornament for a lower price in the used car market when the next cool thing comes around.

and you are right. I don’t care how anyone else spends their money. You saw that I was asking where are those who like to use their JTs what they were made for instead of what else can I do to my Jeep? Then heads exploded over that. And I’m like ā€œwhat in the hell happened hereā€
I see plenty of mall crawlers also. A half a dozen guys around me wanted to start a jeep club a few years ago, I went to their meeting, a lot of talk about different off-road rides to take, when it came time to go none of them wanted to go off road at all, they all had excuses, we had a 97 TJ then, wife and I went alone most of the time. Just bought a 2021 Gladiator Mojave about 6 weeks ago with about 15,000 miles on it, first time off road with it yesterday, high centered a few times but had a blast getting back out there.

Well...it took a while, but I did read through all 11 pages to get here.

First off I want to say that I have owned some type of Jeep for the last 40 years; the first was an '81 CJ7 with 4" and 33's and no other mods. I agree with some of your points regarding wheeling back in the day. My group of friends and I wheeled the heck out of our rigs and it was a mixed set of vehicles; 2 CJ's, a Land Cruiser, a K5 Blazer and an F150 were what my cohorts were driving. We wheeled so much that the only two tickets I've ever gotten in my driving career are for Vehicular Trespassing in my CJ.

But I think that right there may be a bit about why you see a disparity between tech posts versus trip reports, etc. I'm an engineer. I'm all about facts and figures and techie stuff, so that is most of what interests me here and things I contribute are likely techie in nature. I'm of an age where I really don't care for most social media "things". I grew up in a time where we sat around talking about what we did over beers. I've never posted on social media about the Cronut I just ate, or Snapped a ridiculous person sitting next to me on the plane. It's not my nature. Honestly for me (and probably many others on this forum), posting all the things I've done with my Jeep on this forum feels a little braggadocioius, attention seeking. I wouldn't consider myself a "ME Monster" and so I don't post the adventures I've done with my Jeep. However, if you'd like a taste, I did the Mojave Road across SoCal 2 months ago, last month I spent two weeks in Moab, Castle Valley, the La Sal Mountains, and all over Ouray, Telluride, Durango. 2 days ago I returned from City of Rocks in ID, Park City UT, Dixie NF, Bryce Canyon and Zion NP.

I don't take my 2020 JTR out hard wheeling because that is what my 2016 JKUR and 2018 JKUR are for. But (since you are in AZ you will recognize these) I did want to make sure it was as capable of hard wheeling like my JKUR's, so my JTR has been up Crown King, Montana Mountain, Hassayampa Box Canyon, Hackberry and Ajax Mine; not to mention that on the day I bought it I took it to Sedona and did Broken Arrow and Schnebly Hill while it was still stock. My Gladiator is now built out as an overlander so that we have RV-like functionalities but can take that RV where most any other vehicle won't go. In fact, since you are in Arizona, 12 million acres are BLM and another 9 million are State Trust Land which means that I can turn down any two track I see and have access to 25% of the state. Which is what I do...all the time...I'd put my AZ pinstriping up against anyone's. In 21,000 miles, I've been through 2 sets of tires (because not a darn thing is soft in the desert) and will be needing another set soon.

If you want to get out and "use" your Gladiator, send me a PM. Depending on the destination, I might use on of my JKUR's because I don't take my Gladiator on trails like Hackberry anymore being that it is a full overland build, thus making her a bit fat and heavy. But be forewarned that if we do go on an adventure, I likely won't be posting about it here. I'll meet up with you at Doc & Eddie's in Tempe and talk to you about it with an Orange Blossom in my hand any day, any time; I'll send pics of the adventure to my wheeling buddies; I'll probably share with my dad because he loves that stuff (he came with me on Crown King and Montana Mtn) and I'll certainly share the details with my wife because she's a wheeler too (the 2018 JKUR is actually hers). But alas, I probably won't come to this forum and post about it...just not my thing.

And...FWIW...you've taken a pretty hard stand about the fact that attitude and tone can't be conveyed in text form...but...you might want to "soften" your position there. That is exactly how writers convey things in books. As someone already pointed out there are phrases/words that are meant to be inflammatory/derogatory/etc. and the use of those will trigger visceral responses from people. Do a google search on "conveying tone in email" and you will see 5 million + hits about it. It is a thing and if you aren't aware of it, maybe it could help you avoid the blast you've been put on this week in your future posts. And if not, be prepared for the types of responses you've been getting.

EDIT: I had an afterthought…one of the issues with trips and trip reports is that if I say ā€œI went to this placeā€ then someone always wants details or specifics about how to get there or this obstacle or that or any myriad questions that are probably better and easier answered by using AllTrails or Trails Off-road or one of the other similar apps. Maybe a piece of me avoids posting what I did with my Jeep just to avoid questions about the trip that I don’t feel I can answer better than one of those reference sources…

I think your point is a good comparison between speed and jeeps. Most ppl with fast or fast/expensive never go racing them.

I think you can find similar things in other hobbies. I know guys who buy automatic rifles for $10k and up and put a ton of money Into them, only to hardly ever shoot them. Or put tactical mods and upgrades on ARs or AKs, they arenā€˜t operators.

Just like with jeeps, if they like the look of big tires and KC lights, as an adult, why do I care. I think it looks cool to. When you talk to people who don’t off-road, most really like/enjoy their jeeps as much as anyone else. In the end that’s all that matters.

I think something that a lot of veteran Jeep owners overlook about the Gladiator is that it's a truck with a usable bed. I would venture a guess that with the immense popularity of the pickup truck (esp in the US), just as many people buy it for its utility as a truck than as an off-road wheeler.

For me, I bought it because it's a kick-ass truck that can be a convertible and also a Jeep when we go to the mountains or camping. I coach baseball, basketball, and soccer, so most of the time, my JT has a wagon filled with gear in its bed. The dirt you see on the side of my truck is from the baseball field. The Jurassic Park decals are because I'm a kick-ass Dad and my sons think they're the sh$t when I drop them off at school.

So utility truck, off-road 4x4, topless beach comber, mall crawler, etc. - I think that's the beauty of the Gladiator and why Jeep hit a home run - it's what you want it to be.

Jeep Gladiator Since when is it more about what we do TO our Jeeps than what we do WITH our Jeeps gear1

The usual - buckets of balls, clipboards, ball bags, and a wagon full of crap (yes my garage needs serious attention).

Want to go camping? Yeah, try that in a Wrangler! :fist bump:

It seems every hobby is like this. I was even going to use the AR 15 community as an example, but you beat me to it lol. I remember as a kid playing paintball the rich kids had like 1k guns and us normal kids had like $175 guns. As long as the people who go all out on high end stuff aren't looking down their noses at people I don't really care. But there will always be deep pocket types who enjoy buying stuff more than actually using it.
