I'm with you here, either I really suck at it or the search engines is really bogged down... I never can find anything.... which makes me guilty of posting some of the questions over and over....

Don't use this site's search engine, use Google. Most of the top hits on Google come right back here.

My follow up comment.

Posers and mall crawlers are just the facts, its not name calling really. They want to "pose" as an offroader and/or they just want to drive the streets.
I think the question is, why is it a poser instead of just what someone likes ?

Not sure if it's their vanity or a labor of love but I for one enjoy the effort that others put into their documentation.
Oh don't get me wrong, I am immensely appreciative of those who put the time and effort into making these channels. After not owning a Jeep for 6 years, it was watching those channels that finally got me to bite the bullet again and trade in my sports car for a Jeep once more!

Why not both?

It’s kinda the holy grail if you enjoy both the breaking (adventuring) and the fixing, ya?

My intent wasn't to hurt your feelings. It's kind of important to know not only what but from whose perspective. Experienced vs "It's my 1st Jeep" I don't know any other way to explain this. But ok. Moving along.

Then you must have missed the part where I mentioned 53 pages for WITH and 1283 pages TO. dedicated to the subject. And one thread dedicated to trails and travels with 3344 messages and I'm guessing over 150k messages related to tech and mods. It's the disparity between the two.

you can see it however you want to see it. As a complaint or noting an observation maybe seeing if fellow Jeep guys, you know, what we share in common. No where did I attack anyone's fragile ego. Maybe we have new Jeep owners who think like I do yet are now asking "now that I have this awesome tool, now what?" I'm all about getting out of my comfort zone. And I more than welcome someone with valuable input. I guarantee there are ppl cooler than me. I don't care who is cool or who is not. Either we learn from each other or get left behind.
You may shave hurt someone’s feelings, but I promise it wasn’t mine. It’s ironic that you talk about commonalities after posting that there are, literally, hundreds of pages of posts on this forum alone both for the mods/looks/tech and trails yet continue to wonder why there isn’t more of the latter. That’s a lot of common ground and I suspect a decent bit of overlap in the people posting. As someone else said, this vehicle (all Jeeps, in fact) appeal to a broad cross section of people, ranging from those who just want a fun ride to cruises around in, to those using it as a trail rig…and everything in between. Perhaps there are more folks that want to do more off-roading type stuff but don’t have a group, or don’t know where to go, or don’t want to put a paint gouge on a $50k car with a note. Also, the world isn’t the same as it once was. When I was a kid, we would go mud bogging on any open space with a mud hole. Or ride the high tension paths. Do that now and you’ll likely have the law called on you and probably have to convince a judge to not find you guilty of trespassing. Maybe a lot of people are busy spending their weekends at soccer fields and basketball tournaments for their kids. Parents are certainly a lot busier today than mine were. Idk the answer, but if your intent was to stir up interest, you took an interesting approach.

Add to that the growing online population who find it easier to post a question on a forum rather than search for it, that adds to the ever-growing list of "can I fit 35s" and other mundane threads.
I’m population. The search on this forum sucks. I search for something, can’t find it. Then make a post and the “suggested posts” are what I was searching for.

Isn't it both? Thats what I described. Jeeps are purpose built niche' vehicles.
Yes it could be, depending on how you choose to look at it.... Glass 1/2 full-empty .... I guess. I know I liked the look of modded Jeeps before I ever knew what hard core 4 wheeling was, hell I was years from being old enough to drive..... I carry a lighter in my pocket also , but I dont smoke..... for me anyway, I grew out of the "poser" outlook a long time ago..... I used to think all the tourist on the beach with their expensive surfboards were posers, but as I got older, I realized that they enjoyed it and just wanted to have some fun. As far as niche vehicles, atleast where I live, 90% of them will never see dirt and were bought for the look.

That's baseless in terms of a lawsuit.

A lot of the "adventures" are hidden in the local threads. You have to look for them in the staging area, they don't show in the newsfeed.

Honestly, I got this jeep 50% for a transportation mode, 5% for the bed, 10% for the convertible, 15% for the offroad capability and 20% for the manual and 4wd combo. My wife's is 100% for the ride height, the manual transmission, and the 4wheel drive. She hasn't wheeled since we had our TJ, which was considerably cheaper, and she is unlikely too. She never takes the top off. She just likes jeeps, the way many people buy c8s vettes and never hit 190mph or see a track. So what? She likes them because they (and the bronco) are the only SUVs you can get with a manual, and they look cool.

I'm an old school Jeep guy. On my 9th Jeep if you include my FJ40 and Roxor. My 1st new Jeep is a JT and Ive driven plenty of other Jeeps along with other off road vehicles US and internationally. For work and pleasure. Since I retired last year I've gotten in to RV hauling now only drive 1/2 and 3/4 t trucks and RV trailers from IN and OR to Anchorage Alaska. I say this because I need to be clear where I'm coming from before someone with 3 years here calls me a newb. Do we even do this anymore? OK, before that guy who got his 1st new Jeep 4 years ago and sank $20k in it and been to 3 trails.

As of this post trip Journals and Reports account for 3,344 messages. This topic involvement is dwarfed by tech section, builds, and basically "what tires can I fit without a lift" topics. Not only here but FB pages. In fact, under this General discussion there are two subjects threads. One is what did you do TO, with 1293 pages and WITH 53 pages. We have the most trail capable 4x4 ever made in history being sold right now, but seems the almost sole discussion is who has what trim and what other crap can you buy for your Jeep.

I see some of the most well built off road Jeeps with the best graphics.. with an impeccable paint and finish. I swear I know a guy with a 99 Suzuki Vitara that has seen more trail use in a month then that a built $110k JT.

I've had my JT for 10 days. And yeah, I've modded a bit. It's a Sport trim. Did 285/70 (33's), knock of rubi bumper, 1.5 level spacers, take off rub rails and that's it until I get the next thing. The day after I got my JT we had to go to TJ, drop off BIL ATV in SD, and other things, Tooled around San Diego a bit and drove back to AZ. Yeah, I realize its not a trip report to Imogene Pass, but that's next. Have you driven in Mexico? A Jeep is made for Mexico no question about that. Also plan to take local trails. Nothing crazy, yet. I also want to take my Jeep to Alaska since I'm familiar with the road, summer and winter.

And to also say, Jeeps aren't the only ones. Name any brand. Seems like only Adventure bikers are the ones bragging where they've been. Guns too. It's all about some crap they put on and not about a course, range report, or hunt.

So how about we add some Arizona pin striping and hear about getting a flat or stuck somewhere more than hearing about who has the best trim level, or the 1 millionth will 35 fit... We have the most versatile vehicle ever made in production. So let's hear more on these adventures and where you've been. Who cares if its bone stock or the most mods.

I miss my '79 Cherokee Chief with 12 inches of lift, and 44" Ground Hawgs! The hood on that Jeep was 60" off the ground... could almost look semi drivers in the eyes!
