I figured that out a long time ago. Tried to attach this magnetic sticker to the tailgate.
Had to put it on the side. Fail to understand why Jeep did that. Save a few pennies I guess.

Aluminum is more than twice the cost of steel by weight, and though it weighs considerably less, it is more expensive to work with. Jeep saved weight not cost using aluminum on the tailgate.

My Glad max tow shipping weight is 4457 lb. vs. my JKU Rubion Recon shipping weight of 4315.
But my JTR weighs in at some 5100 lb. It's one of if not the heaviest mid-size trucks on the market.

I will admit i did not read all 6 pages to this thread, however, the tailgate is metal, it is aluminum and now after chopping and installing the reaper off road tailgate box, mine now has some steel in it too lol.

Is it aluminum, or another alloy? I thought I read somewhere in these forums a couple of years ago where it was a magnesium/aluminum alloy..........

Aha - here's one of the posts I read on that waaay back -

Wranglers use magnesium but the JT got a proprietary material that is 40% magnesium, 50% aluminum and 9% carbon fiber strands.

Is your Mojave hood steel or aluminium? Mine was steel and was seriously heavy. I swapped it for the feather weight sport hood.
aluminum. which i discovered after buying a magnet antenna i had to return. The only steel on my truck is the bedside and floor, cab, frame and hinges. everything else fails the magnet test.

Most exterior parts are paramagnetic.
Still semi-amused by the "is the tailgate not metal". Over 90 elements in the chart are metals, so it could be made of calcium and still be metal. Damn, that's getting REALLY REALLY PICKY!!!

What year? I thought all Mojaves had steel hoods with the front vent hood scoop. I havent done a magnet check but the hood on my 23 JTM is really heavy so I’m sure its steel.

And requires a different pair of Redlin Tuning hood struts.

Yes, I bought the Mojave specific hood gas strut(So I dont have to keep lifting up that heavy steel hood and fumbling with the factory hood strut). Also bought Mojave specific A-pillar ditch light mounta.
