Standard front Rubicon bumper or Steel ?
What do you prefer and why. Lets read all about it.
Is it worth it?
How is the weight? Too heavy?
Just go aftermarket and which one?

Mine came with the steel.

I’m happy with the factory steel. Looks good and does anything I’ll ever need it to do.

If I had the plastic, I’d probably be looking at shrockworks in a mid width. I ran one on my old jkur and it was fantastic. Very high quality. Allowed my wife to drive home after she was in a pretty good accident at 55+. Lost the Jeep ultimately as insurance totaled it, but my wife faired well!

If you like the look then the OEM steel. It will take a winch. Or if you are looking for an aftermarket bumper because you like the looks then the OEM steel is a waste of money. You can sell it as there are many that will buy it in a heartbeat but you will not get out of it what you paid.

The MOPAR bumper isn't worth it.

Its 900 dollars to upgrade...you can get a great bumper for less than that...with thicker steel.

Also, it doesn't come with a winch plate...thats 200 bucks more. Now you're 1100 into this thing.

And the cones on the front of the steel bumper are friggin PLASTIC.

Just say no to MOPAR bumpers.

If you buy it used it'll be 500 + a winch plate. and for 700 bucks it still isn't worth it IMO.

I have shrockworks on both my jeeps. There might some equals in quality but none that are better.

Don't get the MOPAR steel bumper. You can get a high-quality aftermarket bumper for cheaper.

I've got a Quadratec QRC stubby. The last one I had on my JKU survived my getting read-ended and totaling the Honda in front of me without a scratch.

Agreeing with the above, new from dealer is a rip off. Takeoff used, eh, maybe... but really only if you like the factory look. Otherwise you can get better bumpers for same as take off or cheaper than dealer.

I agree with many. I've had a similar mopar steel bumper (Hard Rock) for a previous jeep. Very thin as i managed to make a small indentation by overtightening the screw. Although it does look nice, I did replace it with a PS bumper that only got scuffed when my neighbor accidently hit my jeep with his car. It would be a different story if i sticked with the Mopar steel.

Mine already had the Mopar steel on it at the dealer (and I got a decent deal on it). If I was ordering, I would not have ordered the steel and would have found an aftermarket I liked.

I purchased a Sport S with the intent of upgrading the bumper to a Mopar steel bumper. On top of that, if you want a matching skid plate from Mopar, you have to get the a kit that comes with brackets for the skid plate, which cost about $250. You can also purchase a trim piece that goes in between the bumper and the grill. I just decided trim the one I had from my old bumper.

All in all, its about $1,300 investment into a bumper, excluding any additions for a winch. I wish I got a Jeep with the mopar steel bumper, could have saved some money. Still love the looks though and great build quality. It came included with LED fogs, which I didn't have in the first place.

When I first started shopping for Jeeps, I couldn't believe they didn't all have steel bumpers. Plastic bumpers shouldn't even be an option on a vehicle that can taken off-road. Or really even a truck.

Crazy right? However I'm glad these things have bumpers at all as they are disappearing from most vehicles.

Couple of things... I like the look and decent / average protection over the plastic front bumper.
Any aftermarket bumper sort of looks like it?
Retains the hooks?
Full length to cover the wheels ala stock like?
And I'll not be adding winch.
Plus the least obtrusive is best for me, I'm not a fan of the "upper bar that leans forward" as I'll never use its function and makes engine service so much harder.

OMG! Bumpers galore. Best place to start looking is Quadratec. And they go from mild to wild. Steel to Aluminum. You can get a decent steel one for a few hundred. the choices are almost endless. Anything thats made for the JL can be used on the JT front.
