So I’m brand new to the forum and joined because I have had an issue ever since I bought my 2020 Gladiator Rubicon in Gator green. I have @14,000 miles on it now, I don’t drive it much because I work primarily from home and sits in the garage. No aftermarket mods other than some side steps and mud flaps.

Since new, I noticed it would start and idle in a rough fashion. Sometimes my start/stop feature would fail, and then just 3 weeks ago, the remote start stopped working and the engine light came on. Finally, I had enough.

I called my Local dealer and they were a week out. Went To O’Reillys and had them run a diagnostic, the P0300 code came up, random ignition issue. The following week,I took my truck to the shop.

two days later they called and said it was a malfunction involving one of the cam shafts. They also said that had I came just a week or two earlier, they would not have figured out, that this is a problem they have just now figured out with the Gladiators. They said they have had like “3-4 folks” with this issue. I guess that meant for my dealer. They are going to replace the camshaft, that’s where I’m at with this.

I plan on asking questions when I get the call it is finished. Like, what do they think about the engine longevity given they’ve opened it up…what to look for next, etc. Anything you guys would like to know, I will ask as well.

not sure if I have helped or just muddied the waters, but this is my story so far and with all the threads related to this I thought I would just start a new one since I didn’t see anything about cam shafts with a cursory glance at the other threads, sorry if I missed anything.

Your situation is not unique. In fact, there is a bazillion threads already on misfire and cam shaft issues. They are replacing it per a TSB direction and seems to affect "some" 2020 and 2021 year models. Those that had the replacement, seem for the most part to cure their issues going forward.

That being said, there is still some reported other issues affecting misfire and other causes besides the camshaft replacement.

Below is a link to over a hundred page thread of people discussing their misfire issues.

Yea, you're not alone. Many JT's have been affected by this, and it's mostly from poor QC during engine assembly.

Well, the engine was made in Mexico, don’t know much about that plant. Who knows.

I’m a solid Jeep guy, had everything from MBs, Scramblers, Commandos and many, many others. Had a version of every iteration of the Wrangler since 1991. Rubicons, Islanders, Willys….what can I say, I am a Jeep fan.

wish they would stuff a Hemi in one of these.
