i love my Glad diesel and only bought because of this drivetrain. No antiquated, self-destructing mini van engines for me in a modern vehicle. Seriously ... a 25 year old engine. I love my diesel and pray every day no one hits it or steals it, because I would need to go to Toyota or Ford for a replacement. Heck ... I honestly don't think Jeep will have a competitive engine (not antiquated and inefficient classic V-8's) until way past my next purchase around Jan 2028. Just sad.
My bad ... the Pentastar is ONLY 17 years old!!! Hahahaha

First of all, Zybane,
thank you for your service.

As for Jeep Wranglers or Gladiators,
I put them in the same category
as motorcycles.

Do not get one
unless you have a burning desire for one.

Why no diesel???

I have read so much about Stellantis and its desire to move to electric and hybrid vehicles so the diesel was dropped. But in reality, there is still a market for it. Do you think there is any chance it will be available again? I mean, it's already there, shouldn't need that much work to bring it up to date if it even needs to be changed.

What is Stellantis losing by not offering it again? Is it possibly higher warranty costs for them? That can be my only thought or reason on why they won't offer it.

Oh you’ll be back……
I disagree with the general opinion that the Pentastar does not have the power to tow in mountains. I drive the mountains in eastern Arizona pulling a Flagstaff E-Pro weighing 3700 to 3800#. Az State Route 87 from Rye to Payson is a 6 to 7% grade about 5 miles long. I went up at 65mph pulling 5200 to 5500 rpms and did so with just a little over half throttle, I could have red lined the tach.
Though the high revs may alarm some drivers, keep in mind this V6 has a short stroke making for relatively slow piston speeds that strains components far less than a long stroke motor does, it loves high rpms.
The 3.6 has the great advantage of being coupled to the ZF 8 speed that is touted to be the best transmission period (the Gladdy is my 2nd ZF and I agree). All you need to do is pick a gear that keeps you around 5000 rpms and marvel at the engines smooth power.

Cool Dude
Man, I've been wrestling with the exact same thoughts lately. Honestly, if you're planning a heavy portal axle build, the Pentastar is going to feel pretty gutless unless you re-gear it aggressively, and even then, it's no powerhouse.
Since Stellantis seems to be dragging their feet on bringing the Hurricane inline-6 to the JT platform, looking at a used EcoDiesel is probably your best bet for that kind of low-end torque you'll need. The CP4 fuel pump recall did finally address the main ticking time bomb on those motors, so as long as the paperwork shows the dealer completed the swap with the revised pump, it’s a much safer gamble now than it was two years ago. I'd definitely lean that way over dropping $30k+ on a custom V8 swap.
The 74Weld portal axles have a built-in 1.22 gear reduction, effectively moving the 3.73 stock gear ratio up to 4.55 and the 4.10 max tow gear ratio goes all the way up to 5.00.

And an almost 4 inch lift. Without any other mods. No suspension lift, no regear, and the Pentastar will be in a happier RPM range.

I...I uh, really want these. I don't have $17k for it though.

The current JL/JT platform stays as is through MY 2030.

No major changes to the Gladiator are on schedule or being quoted.

Volumes remain steady.

I'll post up the latest forecast when I have my laptop back, but they look exactly like the ones I've been posting for 2 years.

With steady volumes and great aftermarket support, I see the Gladiator being a Wrangler stablemate for quite some time. I'm hoping the Dakota carves out a different slice of the pie and the two can coexist for years to come.

They're absolutely hammering the Dakota through design, sourcing, quoting and launch, quite remarkable the speed they're moving at. Even pulled it ahead of the new Compass, which was a volume leader for them.

I loved the 3.0 Ecodiesel in my GC. Unfortunately, VM Motori, the manufacturer was sold in 2023 so there aren’t any diesel engines in the Stelantis portfolio..

The spreadsheet is three weeks out of date due to the holiday, so it should be updated Friday.

However the brief changeover calendar is available, you can see everything but the Recon carry's over this year. That means powertrains, etc.

I know it's not as exotic as Mr Fusions and hover conversions for the whole lineup like the insiders have... But it is real.
