So, I know that Ft Knox security and Jeeps do not travel side-by-side, but this is ridiculous. My son bought a new ‘21 Mojave. Out of curiosity he tried his flip-out key in my ‘20 Sport S glove box and console AND IT WORKED! The keys were cut entirely different, but yet interchanged. We didn’t try the door. I’m ASSUMING this would be keyed differently.

My take a way on this is that when you are topless and/or doorless anyone with a ‘18 to ‘21 JL or JT can access your locked up stuff in a parking lot or off road.

JEEP, What the Hell???

The doors will also unlock if you squirt them with a hose and the key is nearby. It happens several times while I am washing it. I wonder if someone leaves thier key near their driveway (say on the kitchen counter by a side door) and it rains....will the doors unlock? Can someone just walk up and get in? Has anyone tested the range of the fob?

The owner manual tells how close the FOB has to be.............
Mine (and my wife's Grand Cherokees) will turn the lights on when I'm washing them, but that's all.
Rain won't do it - it's most likely the fact that the water is in an electrical way connected to you. Rain has no connection to anything. There's no stream like a hose or car wash. My guess is that it's like some touch screens were in the past - capacitance of the human body - and connecting you to the Jeep via water apparently does it.

My 2-cents;

If your Jeep is topless, assume you have no locking storage. In fact, it's best to not even try to lock your storage. From personal experience I've had idiots break the plastic locks on both my glove box and center console on prior Jeeps looking for god knows what. Now I'd rather just leave it unlocked and let them see that it's just insurance paperwork.

Same with the top and doors. If you've got a soft top, just don't lock the thing. Too many fools will slice the top with a knife to break into it. Better to just leave the vehicle unlocked IMHO.

You can buy a radio signal booster and boost signal of key in the house to open doors or start it.

Hmmm, question - how would that make it more secure and less prone to the FOB being too close and someone else activating the locks?
He's concerned about the range being TOO good, not not good enough.

On the other hand, he can also use his phone to lock, unlock, or start it.

While I was in Colorado, I parked clear across the lot from the room. Standing in the room looking out a window, I pressed lock and could see the lights flash (and barely hear the horn) so the range is great, IMO.

I fully understand the vulnerability of all motor vehicles. Take this for example: When I was working the street I caught a suspected car thief with a large amount of broken pieces of porcelain from used spark plugs in his pocket. I asked him what it was for and after a while he admitted that if he just threw a piece of porcelain at a car window it would click, and then all he had to do was push in on the window and the window would shatter. he called it "Shatter Rock". We went to the local junk yard and sure enough it worked! We booked him for possession of burglary tools and he was convicted. The case went through several appeals and was finally upheld. Point is, in what manner do these people find out how to use commonly found substances to defeat what is engineered by experts to protect, and.... there is no lock or mechanism that will fully protect your Jeep or any other vehicle for that matter.

At home, I use an Atticus. Works just fine and after one would be burglar got his ass significantly mauled the word got out. I told him as the paramedics were stuffing packing in a fist sized hole that should he return, Atticus had the green light to finish the effing job. Lights, cameras, vigilance, and an Atticus have served me well.

Is the zipper for the soft top still on the outside, like on YJs and TJs?

That happens with any vehicle with proximity sensors. Not just jeeps. But it won't do it unless you're right next to the vehicle. If you do it with the key in the house, it won't unlock. Even if it's like 4 feet away, it won't work. The proximity sensors only work in an extremely short range. Much shorter than the range of the lock/unlock buttons

I am amazed at the distance of my FOB. Pretty much if I can see it… it receives the signal “not talking .5 klicks”

So no one lose their mind with that statement… but along dang ways for sure

I can never hear my horn for I turned that crap off immediately

Those that hunt understand the frustration of having someone lock their doors and the horns honk. ??

I set it that way because I got tired of my wife asking "did you lock it?"
This way I don't get asked. Funny how that works. Usually..........

If it was just me, or if I was out in the middle of nowhere, it would be silent. I don't like hitting the lock and the whole world looking and knowing.
I never set my Silverado that way because she so rarely ever rode with me in that truck - this JT we take everywhere.

The JKs were also like that, FWIW.

No, starting with the JL (and later JT) they switched to a channel system instead of zippers.

I don’t own the soft top, so I’m not positive, but from what I’ve seen online I imagine you can still remove the rear window with the vehicle locked.

The C pillar panels pull out from the outside and the rear window slides out. If you have a soft top there is no security
