Had an almost same situation with my Cherokee. Car that hit me was totaled, I repaired my damage with a $3.95 can of spray pain.

Check your insurance to see if you're covered for Med Pay. There may be other names for it. This will give you money upfront to pay for doctor's bills. If you wait for the other guy's insurance the bills will have racked up by then.

Also, if you think you may need to go to the doctor repeatedly call a lawyer.

With that being said what about losing value on the jeep since it’s been in an “accident”. Does the insurance pay off the loss in value plus damage repairs?
Technically yes, but with the damage being so minor it would probably be hard to establish depreciated value. And trying to negotiate that might be difficult, usually that is attorney territory.

The insurance will cover the OP's injuries and assessed damages (by an appraiser) on the Jeep.

Unfortunately I have had a few accident experiences (not my fault - knock on wood) and I have never seen nor heard of compensation for possible future depreciation of the vehicle.

The OP's injuries (and the Civic's total loss) will deem this a sizable accident; however, it would be interesting to see how the resultant CARFAX report will show the details given that there was relatively small damage done to the JT.

Car buying sites give less value for vehicles with accidents.

495 and 695 are awful. The speed limit is 55 most of the way, with speed cameras in the construction zones. So I try to keep it under 60. But you always have some *** switching lanes, not paying attention, and going like 80-85, even though there's guaranteed to be a beltway traffic jam, either from construction or from the last accident just around the corner.
[/QUOT I commute on 695 and yeah it's a s__t show everyday.

All this is true. I roll on 495 daily, from McLean around to Springfield. The dumbest drivers in the Western Hemisphere seem to come from this area…
Don’t be so sure of that until you’ve driven everywhere in the Western Hemisphere. It seems from my experience that the lack of driving skill and attention to what is actually going on when people are driving has a direct correlation to cell phones and drivers relying more on the safety features in modern vehicles. This is happening just about everywhere I drive, freeways being the worst areas.

Wow. The factory bumpers on these aren't half bad. Even the plastic cover held up ok. Are you going with another stock type rear bumper? I wonder if aftermarket would have held up so well.
Damage looks superficial but I would bet there is more than meets the eye in the pics.
When the Honda hammered on the brakes just before impact the nose and bumper dove down and destroyed the front on the hitch and bumper. The JT maybe okay with just bumper, hitch, tailgate replacement, but a thorough exam of the frame and a rack measurement would be required. My guess $6-8K damage on the Jeep. Not including pain and suffering of the OP. This kids insurance just quadrupled.

One thing that I wonder about though is, if a vehicle is modded with a nonstock bumper and a lift and taller tires etc., could there be some
non approved/roadworthy crap come back? I suppose as long as the bumper height meets local guidelines you would be okay.
But with all the different regulations for DOT, SAE, etc., and whatever else a lawyer could throw at a modded vehicles owner, it just has me wondering.?

This exact thing happened on our 97 TJ, except it was at a red light. Kid was texting. No damage to the TJ, other than the metal bumper. We kept it for several more years. But the JT, with it's longer wheelbase, might lend itself to more "accordion" like bending of the frame. Definitely a good idea to get everything checked out, for sure.

I called my lawyer right after I called my wife. I leaned some years ago that the insurance companies are there to make money, not to take care of you in an accident.
My truck’s appraised damage was around $2k and I’ll be going after depreciation to my vehicle as well. I’m currently seeing a doctor multiple times a week. I let my insurance company take care of everything short term while I wait for my lawyer to get what I’m actually owed

Probably because it surrounds the dumbest place in the western hemisphere.

If it wasn't for that hook there I think there would've been way more damage

Whether or not the "accident" is even on the vehicle is iffy. First the shop that does the repair has to be one of the few that actually reports the repair. In this case if the only damage was bumper, I'd buy a bumper and move on.
There's no automatic reporting of these things to carfax or anyone else.
As I posted evidence of elsewhere, "most" dealers seem to report but few body shops do, no insurance companies or police do.

So - who says it loses value?
