Hi, I am new to the forum and found you guys due to having the exact same issue all of you are having.

I purchased a 2020 Gladiator Rubicon on 9/30/2020 with build date 8-20 and MDH 081314. At 584 miles (two days ago, on Saturday) I got the P0300 code and A! light. The auto start stop cleared on next restart, the CEL stayed on until I reset it with a scan tool. I was parked in my driveway, slight grade, below a quarter tank of gas, and about to leave for the gas station. The truck had done some idling that day as I was moving it in and out of the garage to position and tweak the hard top hoist I was building. All of my other vehicles would handle this without issue.

I was already planning to take it in for the death trap like steering (TSB) but now have an accelerated visit for tomorrow at the dealer I purchased from to address the steering and the CEL. Since I cleared the P0300 code, the CEL has not returned; Since I cleared it and it is not currently on, I am sure I will be sent on my way unless the CEL returns on the drive to the dealer in the morning.

Regardless of cause, owning this thing for less than two weeks and already having a check engine light has me regretting the purchase. I didn't have high hopes for Chrysler reliability getting in to this thing and now I am reminded why; you pretty much just have to want the Jeep and deal with the poor reliability. I did think I would make it to the first payment before it had to go in for warranty.

Anyway, with what I have read on the software flash here and based on my build date, I would imagine that mine has the latest version of software. I wanted to share that so that those who are getting the software flash as a solution know that it is likely not the fix, at least in its current revision.

Thanks to everyone for sharing their information on this issue, it will help find the actual fix! Hopefully mine gets sorted, I really like the thing otherwise and it had real potential to be one of my favorite vehicles to date but for the time being, it is just a $60K disappointment.

Seeing your build date scares the crap out of me. If it was built in August if 2020, it probably should have the correct steering gear on it as well. I can't think of FCA issuing the TSB then continuing to put in the faulty steering box.

My replacement overland is on a train right now coming from Toledo. I purchased my truck the end of July and have had it a grand total of 15 days in my possession.

I hope yours is a simpler fix.

His truck was built one day before they changed over to the new steel box. https://www.jeepgladiatorforum.com/...0-and-after-got-the-steel-steering-box.34722/

Thanks, me too! Sorry for your troubles, 15 days out of 3 months, that is sad. I hope you get to enjoy the new one! I really want to like the truck but FCA has to do their part. I would expect the issue will persist in the 2021 models. I may plan to just let the engine blow in mine if I do not get a fix, they can keep paying to replace it as far as I am concerned, should do it right the first time or at least dedicate resources to fixing it; I do not plan to pay thousands on a rental while they keep my truck for months.

On the steering gear, I think my build date was the day prior to the change over to the steel unit, at least from what I have read here. I shared my info in that thread too just in case it helps narrow it down any further.

Lot's of good information here at least! I would almost speculate that someone here will find the fix before FCA does.

I am about 100 miles away from 1941 on my rental ram. Was planning on posting the pic of that to Jeep when it happens. I put 500 miles on the gladiator. Dealership added another 500. It sits there with 1038. Real sad part is I can see it from the freeway when I drive by.

Like mountainpass said - August 14th was the cut-off date. Only those made AFTER August 14th (or certain hours during the 14th) have the new gear. Prior to the 14th they will absolutely have the aluminum housing steering gear.
It's possible that the software wasn't yet changed as well. It takes a lot to get revisions through - a ton of paperwork and record-keeping goes into any change made. They can't simply say hey, we have a new part, start using it now.
Also this steering thing is a TSB, not a recall............ that plays into things as well.

The P-0300 ASS CEL TSB refers to vehicles built July 9 and earlier though. That is what is worrying me. I think many of us were under the belief that FCA corrected the problem after the COVID lockdown was over. Seeing these later builds pop up makes me wonder if a replacement is going to have the same issues.

Thank you. I do like the Gladiator and hope it doesn't end up being unreliable. I certainly appreciate you reaching out as well. I will send a PM to follow up with the remaining items / concerns that I have based on dealer visit. Thanks again!

If you do decide to take it in for service before it blows up, just expect to wait forever for any kind of recourse and to be underwhelmed by Jeep’s corporate response. But I’m sure you already know that from reading all these entries. Mine has been held up since 9/28 and the dealership just called today to say a replacement engine won’t be in until October 26th. At that time it will qualify as a lemon in Pa. Total dissatisfaction.

Mine has been in the shop since 8/21. New engine ETA does not exist. Replacement gladiator scheduled to arrive 11/9

That’s crazy. I don’t know how you can be so patient.
Did you work something out with FCA or pursue the lemon law?

Saddest part of all this is Jeep has absolutely no idea what it wrong or how to fix it. Not only that they dont give a damn and refuse to admit there is a problem. They instead dick folks around. Jeep Cares, Jeep Wave and everything that goes into FCA is a joke. It’s honestly useless and I pity anyone who has to deal with this like I have. It’s truly pathetic Jeep, Mopar and FCA should be ashamed. It’s sad this hasn’t got more traction and would be a shame when the news media gets a hold of this or there is a class action lawsuit

There is no working with FCA. It’s a horrible company and I wish I never would have bought this car. They have their money and know it will take months to adjudicate a lemon law case.

When I got my second CEL, the star case started. I had it opened because I wanted a rental truck instead of a car but since it was open, the rep stuck with me. A week into my third CEL, I asked for my case to be elevated from the Jeep Cares to the retention team. That rep was worthless and a bit if a pain. I kept telling her what was going to happen next with the gladiator, after seeing it over and over on this forum and she kept arguing with me about it.
A week into the 4th CEL, I called and told her that labor day (the next monday) was 30 days without my vehicle and according to Washington State, I could file for lemon law. That Friday she called back and said that the buyback was approved. I then was sent to the reaquisition team and that is who I have been working with ever since. I ordered the replacement on September 10th.

I have wanted a gladiator since they were announced. Now I just want one that works

Thanks for the detailed description. I’m sure you explained it somewhere in these 79 pages, but you summing it up now can tell me what to expect. I’ll say a prayer for you as I don’t know what’s worse, what happened to you so far or having to wait until November for a replacement by rail.
I wanted one too as soon as they were first announced. I’m a lot closer to Toledo and would see them transported on I-80 East. I wish I never traded in my JKU for this headache.
