I have thrown in the towel and requested a buy back. My Gladiator has been at the dealership since June 2nd. I have been treated well under the circumstances but I am not considering another Jeep until 2022. If they don't know how to fix mine or what is wrong with it why would I trust the 2021. I wish I did, I did love the Gladiator for the few weeks I was able to drive it.

Update on the ongoing saga of the dreaded CEL & ESS light (been in the shop 3 times). I just picked up my JT yesterday after a complete engine replacement, as requested by FCA engineers. Back out of my drive this morning and low and behold the ESS light returns. I Left a message with the dealership service department. For those keeping track, I've had the JT for 77 days and it's been in the shop for 58 of those days. Going through the buy back process, but it's long, tedious and not for the faint of heart. Thinking I'll just continue to drive until the buy back process completes.
what you're build date? and last 6 of the vin?

Tuesday, my local dealership updated the ECM and returned the vehicle to me Wednesday. This morning (Friday), SSA unavailable, then CEL, then I owe my daughter a dollar for voicing my displeasure vocally with the family in the vehicle.

At 740 miles, it is in the shop for the 2nd time with it's 3rd CEL. All are P0300 multiple cylinder misfire.

Is there a spreadsheet with all of the owners and a short listing of the problems?

I guess I’m just wondering where all this data is going or if it’s just being posted to this forum.

If you have had the CEL light come on with misfire codes, please respond to this thread.
Build date:
Mileage when it first occurred:
How many times has it occurred:
What exact codes did it throw:
Is the issue on going? Y/N
If so, what has been done to try to solve the issue?
Was the issue ever fully resolved? Y/N

I'm just curious how many of us are dealing with the same issue and how much of a problem it truly is. I know for a fact that on my build date that 10 other JT's failed final inspection for the same misfire issue so I know there are plenty out there based off of this alone.
Have you been tracking these? It was a great thread to start and there are now dozens of replies as well as other threads recording the same issues.

This is almost into the realm of a class action since Fiat Chrystler knows about the issue and continues to sell these vehicles that are defective.

This thread was started to keep all these complaints in one thread and to figure out how many of us are out there. The problem is there are also several other threads with people having the misfire issue that don't search before they post a new thread.
My goal here was that hopefully one dealer in the US would come up with a definitive fix and the rest of us would also be able to quickly resolve the issue. Since FCA seems silent on this matter I Feel like we are on our own here, at least for now.
Some things to consider:
1. Wait it out & hope for an eventual FCA fix.
2. File a lemon law claim or request a buy back.
3. We all come together and try to file a class action lawsuit. From what I read this may be a stretch since there may not be enough of us affected for this route. We also need to prove we are financially harmed in some way. Maybe we could argue the vehicle has a diminished value?
4. We all file complaints with the NHTSA. https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/recallprocess.cfm Although this is not technically a safety concern it may still fall under their guidelines. If enough file complaints then maybe they will get involved and force a recall.
Anyone have any input on any of these options? I know lemon law has already been discussed here but what about these other options to get this issue escalated to a point FCA gets serious about it.

Also,
If anyone knows how to create a spreadsheet embedded into this thread or is computer savvy enough to do that, PM me and we can add it here to try to keep all those with this issue together.

The spreadsheet idea is a good one. I was reading yesterday about the similar problems lewishouse mentioned that happened on the 2012 Pentastar. It appears that FCA got sued for covering that up and then refused to fix some of those engines. I don’t understand that. Why not just find the problem and fix it?

My dealership spoke with Chrysler Thursday and they believe that they have identified the issue. This is unofficial but I was told the pistons were incorrectly set causing damage to the cylinder walls. Excessive oil was affecting the phasers and causing multiple misfires and other VVT issues. I was told they are sending a replacement engine. My service director confirmed the information but could not confirm the FCA diagnosis or recall.

So I just noticed this today as well. The Auto Start/Stop light came on and then on a subsequent start up it was off. The vehicle has a rough idle on startup but not all the time.

I am so frustrated with this vehicle. I have 70k miles on my 2011 Tundra and not one issue. I have a 7” lift and 37” tires on 20” wheels. Not a single problem.

I have less than 1500 miles on this Jeep and now I find myself looking for a CEL every time I’m driving it.

UNNACCEPTABLE JEEP!

And to top it off - service has no idea what’s going on, nor does Jeep. And sales is selling them knowing full well there is an issue that is not resolved.

There have been stop-sales for far less.

I smell a potential class action.

My 4th CEL after 3 prior repair attempts, including the computer update that was suppose to fix the problem. Time for my Lemon Law letter. I am disappointed because I love my Gladiator. I own 2 Wranglers, and 6 other Wranglers and Grand Cherokees over the years. Never had problems like this.

Build date: 1/20
Mileage when it first occurred: CEL = 3,650, but ESS >3x from ~2,000+
How many times has it occurred: CEL = once. ESS = >3x
What exact codes did it throw: P0300
Is the issue on going? N
What has been done to try to solve the issue? Checked code at home, cleared code, and I now drive w/ auto-stop/start off
Was the issue ever fully resolved? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

We bought our JT used w/ ~2k miles on it. Dealership said the previous owner went from an F-150 to a JT and back to an F-150 b/c the JT didn't tow as well as his old F-150. Now? I'm not so sure if that's the correct story.

It's thrown the (@!) code a handful of times since we got it a month ago, and I always thought it idled and shifted weird when the auto-start/stop was on (not necessarily engaged).

Then yesterday auto-start/stop engaged to turn the car off and everything was fine. When auto-start/stop turned the car back on to cool the cabin, it misfired—and I could feel it. Front end started shaking, so I turned the car off right away.

CEL came on on the next start.. but the JT purred like a kitten!? I ran the codes, came back with the P0300, and just cleared it and kept driving it. Because, if FCA hasn't found a solution yet, then I'm just gonna keep driving it like @GlacierGladiator mentioned. But since auto-start/stop and the ESS seems to be the precursor for the P0300's CEL, I'm just going to turn off that feature every time I start the Jeep. Already, it seems to be idling, shifting, and braking smoother. Almost like the JT isn't guessing WTF it's going to do as the car slows down.

But I have 2 questions for the group:
1) Has anyone else had success w/ just clearing the CEL code and driving their JT w/ auto-start/stop disengaged?
2) We don't have a dealer warranty (b/c we bought used). Would FCA's manufacturer's warranty cover any of this? Or would I have to pay for parts/service out of pocket!?

Ask questions about the engine. I was told by customer service that they replace with remanufactured engines...so you get another problem motor that couldn’t make it a year down the road swapped into your Jeep. Unacceptable!

try asking the dealership about the bad piston install. I feel a recall is coming. FCA appears to be in damage control mode. They have been doing all the top end fixes that have failed. Interesting theY finally found the issue is in the heart of the engine. I wonder if the pistons are robotic installed or human.
