Suspension limiting straps

I finished installing my rear Rock jock sway bar, but now my brake lines max out before my shocks max out. Not that I want the shocks to max, but I’d rather that instead of pulling a brake line! (Edit: the springs are loose at full droop too) I have a 2” lift on a max tow suspension if that matters.
I was thinking about adding limiting straps to the rear.
Has anyone done this on a JT? Any suggestions or warnings you might want to mention?
It seems like a pretty basic install. To determine the strap length I let my suspension drop as far as I was comfortable with the brake lines stretch and took a measurement from two mounting locations. I came up with 14”. I’ll subtract 1” for stretch and order a 13” strap.
Does it sound like I’m missing anything?

Why not get extended brake lines?
Honestly, I didn’t think of that and I feel stupid now. But, I also forgot to mention that the springs are starting to get loose when the rear is at full droop (brake lines maxed out). So, I’m thinking the straps are still the cheapest/easiest way to go for now.

I guess the question I would have is that you put the rock jock on to improve articulation/travel and then you want to limit that with straps? Have you changed the brake line mount to the longer mount or removed bracket?

i would try to figure out a way to use that articulation. maybe a slightly longer spring or even a spacer? i don’t know, but other smarter people than me will know. sounds like your on the edge of greatness lol!

I am installing the Rock Jock Anti Rock rear sway bar on Saturday. I have the Clayton 3.5 inch lift and the long (32") Falcon Adjustable rear shocks. Do you have any tips for the install ? I guess I will have to drill one hole in the drivers bump stop pad... I also anticipate a loose spring at full articulation since I fought that with the OEM style end links. I ended up going 14.25" for the end link length - center to center, and my springs have stayed put for many trails, but, I have bent my end links at least 4 times and I got sick of fixing them.
I have already extended my brake lines, and if you go up top and release the ABS sensor lines, there is plenty of slack up top to make them as long as the extended brake lines. I am guessing that is enough slack.

Yes, you have to drill into the bump stop, but the template they provide works great.

Couple things I would watch out for..

  1. This is the picture shown in the instructions of the bracket being mounted to the frame.

    This is not the bracket you get with the kit. The one that comes with the kit requires a spacer behind each mounting bolt. The kit comes with the spacers but doesn’t mention it.
  2. I had to do A LOT of grinding on the drivers side frame cross member where the bracket fits inside. The passenger side wasn’t bad.
  3. The kit comes with 14” end link rods. I decided to order 12” after I did the installation because it seemed like a shorter rod would allow better adjustment for the arm angle. Maybe it’s because I only have a 2” lift? Haven’t installed them yet so can’t confirm that.
  4. Step 19 in the instructions. There’s a wedge nut that goes into the bracket before you mount it to the frame. Pay attention to which way it goes in. I did one side wrong and had to remove the bracket to correct it.

Here is a pic of the extended brakelines zip tied to the ABS sensor line. As you can see, there is plenty of slack that you can free up on the ABS sensor lines to make them as long as the extended brake lines. This is on the 3.5" Clayton overland plus kit.

For now....Remove everything off your brake lines separate the sensor and line take the bracket off the front control arms (cut the bracket with a sawzall) then zip tie the metal piece that is still clamped to the line over by the coil spring.

For the rear you dont have much options you really need longer ones but separating everything for now should be ok until you hit a jump :)

Limiting straps really arent needed on gladiators from what ive seen unless your running a ball joint type of joint on all the control arms track bars and you have aftermarket driveshafts.

Thank you for the advice. I did notice that the springs are getting loose when I let it droop to the max of the current brake line length. Don’t you think I should be concerned about popping a spring out if I allow for more articulation?

If that is the case then you would want coil spring retainers ideally.

You can do limit straps if your concerned but I have yet to see anyone on the trails with limit straps on a JT/JL.

I had both on my JK 2 door with the teraflex prerunner kit but I had nearly 5" of lift.

Teraflex sells coil spring retainers for the rears as that is an issue on the JT. A bit fiddly on install, but not terrible.

I like the retainer idea. Then I will be all set when/if……when I go bigger with the lift.
