Terrifying issue with forward collision system malfunction - anyone else experience?

Happened three times to me where the brakes practically locked up. Twice when people pulled out in front of me - I saw them coming and was adjusting my pace. Apparently the truck thought I should have done that sooner. Once just out of the blue when turning at the end of a metal bridge - I guess I got to close.
I wanted to get used to this, as I get older it might help, but it just freaked me out so much I consider it a hazard, so I turned off the auto brake. The dash will light up and warn me but it seems less than consistent.
I drive with no distractions and like being in control - 2.5 tons rolling at 65mph is a lot of responsibility and I don't take that lightly. With all of the distracted driving today I can see why they made it this way... Sad.

First time it triggered for me was when I was, admittedly, being overly aggressive in passing a driver who was taking way too long making a right turn—I think the system saw me both crossing the yellow line (with oncoming traffic a good distance away) and being on a trajectory to impact the corner of the car.

The second time it triggered, I was in a gridlock situation with a driver exiting a parking lot into two-lane traffic and completely blocked the right lane. The exiting driver was directly in front of me, so I cut the wheel hard to the left and accelerated to change lanes—the system caught me accelerating toward oncoming traffic and again, possibly the corner of the front bumper of the exiting car and stopped me.

Honestly, I’ve just been less aggressive with my driving since then—I think a fair argument could be made for it making me a safer, or at least a more patient driver.

The third time it happened, I had a confused couple of older-generation people in front of me that after pulling over to let a fire truck pass, pulled back into traffic and must have been distracted or freaked out by a group of three motorcycles coming in the opposite lanes, because they jumped on their brakes almost immediately. I was still accelerating after stopping for the emergency vehicle and had glanced to my side view mirror when the boomers hit the brakes. The system kicked in a split second before I hit the brakes.

I actually appreciated it the third time.

I was driving over a bridge on a highway earlier today and, out of nowhere, the car emergency noises go off and my car coms screeching to a halt. It is a manual so it also stalled out. I went from ~40mph to 0mph in as fast as a gladiator can stop.

Luckily, no one crashed into me and no one in the car was hurt. Maybe the sensor saw through a grate in the bridge and then saw the bridge and stopped immediately?

The collision detector malfunctioned and thought that we were in an accident (and, if not for luck, it would have caused us to be in one...) Now, i cant use cruise control and my dashboard is lit up with various issue lights - it appears that the car thinks we were in a collision

Has this happened to anyone else? I am worried about driving it thinking it may happen again

I had my Gladiator do this once in stop and go traffic, going under an overpass. I turned off the auto-braking feature and left it to warn only. It has since gone off a few more times for no apparent reason. Occasionally, the adaptive cruise control will also slam the brakes, so I have to keep a close eye on it.

Come to think of it, one of the times it slammed the brakes with no one in front was coming out of a tunnel, maybe something about going from dark to light quickly does it.

I added it to my JT I ordered today. If more and more vehicles have this feature (and it's turned on) and when Vehicle A stops suddenly then Vehicle B's FCW kicks in and stops them from hitting A.

As was pointed out by a few people, it definitely helped avoid an accident for them. If I'm going to be in an accident I'd rather it be someone else's fault for rear-ending me than for me to hit someone else.

I added to to my JT I ordered today. If more and more vehicles have this feature (and it's turned on) and when Vehicle A stops suddenly then Vehicle B's FCW kicks in and stops them from hitting A.

As was pointed out by a few people, it definitely helped avoid an accident for them. If I'm going to be in an accident I'd rather it be someone else's fault for rear-ending me than for me to hit someone else.

That's great until you slam on the brakes on the highway for NO REASON and can't prove it was the automated system that did it lol. Then it's your ass on the line for being recklessness.

My last car (2019 Audi A4) would engage automatic braking due to exhaust condensation clouds from the car in front of me in the winter. Imagine being at a red light, it turns green, you all start accelerating then your car hits the brakes.

I specifically ordered my Gladiator without it.

I’m not a cop or lawyer but I’m pretty sure there has to be intent to cause an accident that gets you in trouble. I hit my brakes for a bunny at the side of the road and get rear ended then it’s the fault of the driver who hit me.

If this is happening then report it to Jeep. The more times Jeep has it as documented issues the more likely you’ll be able to point to it as a cause of the accident. Maybe the black box data would help the argument too.

Depends on the state you are driving in. Here, if you run into anyone from behind, you are at fault.

Same here but then things get sticky when someone accuses the person of "road rage" or trying to intentionally damage your vehicle. Just saying, not something I would want to get into KNOWING it could be an issue. I certainly wouldn't want to drive behind him. Saying that though, I do try to be a defensive driver as much as possible and try to keep a proper distance back just in case of someone being an idiot or anything failing.

The sad part is that the car that rear-ends you probably is already driving too close. Hopefully they don't accuse you of brake checking them. (Not that you did.) Especially if there is no cars in front of you and they have a dash cam that makes it look like there was no reason for you to slam on the brakes on the highway.

They would still be responsible in most states but it could get ugly.

I didn't order this feature as I have seen and experienced this in many other vehicles before. System is flawed in all vehicles and manufacturers. It will get better but until then, it is a hard pass. Don't fault Jeep on this one, it happens to ALL manufacturers.

I like the warning feature, but not the brake application! So I set the system to only warning, easy!

Happens in the rain a lot to me. Almost get rear ended. Also happens while making turns in a parking garage. Can we disable it and use for cruise control only? Maybe with Tazer? Mine may be from shitty safelite windshield replacement. Dude said he can’t calibrate with tires not being factory LOL.

My insurance dropped by nearly half when I got a model with the safety and convenience features. Insurance companies know that the safety overall is much higher and these annoyance problems are very rare. Like seat belts, sure, there's the guy that burned in his vehicle because of it, but in terms of statistics, you're much more likely to be saved by them. Driving without ACC now makes me totally insane. Sucks.
