The harsh truth is, gladiator sales will not rebound significantly until something substantial is brought to the platform. A large segment of enthusiasts want a V8 option at a reasonable upcharge. The evidence for this is all around us.

I dont predict anything except my truck is getting a swap if my motor goes and jeep hasn't offered a significant upgrade over the 3.6. I love my truck and Iam not spending 60k+ for a new truck with 290hp/260 torque, nor am I spending 60k on a turbo 4.

Which is why I'd rather see the 392. 470hp if jeep does it, 505 if you go to amw. You can argue the v8 is an old solution... but old v8s made worse power than the pentastar. A modern v8 makes more than enough power, sounds better than any of the FI options, and still gets similar fuel economy once you lift it and put big tires on it (the v8 at 2k rpms is more efficient than the v6 at 3k plus which is about where I'd place the average rpms on a roadtrip between the 2 on 37s). At most its costing you 1-2mpg... for double the power.
You're exactly correct

The V8 is nearly a 100 year old solution but as soon as they became common it became the gold standard for engines because of power and packaging.

Sure, I like some 4s, and I like some I6s and flat 6s, but my first choice will always be a V8 if available.

Nearly every major manufacturer has made one at one point or another, and they all make easy power in a good package. We're only seeing mfgs go away from V8s due to government pressure, not internal engineering. Look at the Rube Goldberg mess manufacturers are having to do to small displacement engines in trucks to make the same power as a simple, NA V8

Good info, thanks.

You said "YES. You must submit 7 production ready vehicles with the same powertrain...".

If they all have the same powertrain, does that mean you do not have to submit all available powertrains?
I also mentioned something about weight differences regard crash testing. IIRC it's the emissions testing you must supply every powertrain option to comply.

I stopped bothering for automobiles after seeing the current regulations/requirements. NO, I'm not putting reflectors/amber lights over each wheel well, and there's ZERO CHANCE IN HELL I'LL EVER force facial recognition, or breathalyzers, or any of that bs they're pushing.

It's bad enough to get motorcycles compliant these days.

Honestly, I probably won't ever buy another 4 wheeled vehicle ever again. They're not affordable, reliable, or enjoyable to use. Why TF would I drop $20-60k on something I HATE. With my injuries, I'm THIS close to saying FUCK the world, sitting on my ass on disability, and being that angry old man that yells at the clouds. Okay okay, the last part was a joke, but the rest...yeah. I'm exhausted (mentally) some days.

In this modern world, only about 5" to 10% of the people screaming for a V-8 Gladiator have the means for such an expensive mid-sized truck. The rational people who can afford a V-8 Gladiator will quickly see how financially irresponsible such a niche vehicle would be to purchase. Jeep can choose to support the wealthy (few) Jeep purchasers over the average guy, but that seems like a terrible business decision for a mass market vehicle. When I replace my Gladiator in a year or two, I can promise Stellants no V-8's will be on my list of potential mid-sized truck purchases. Hmmm ... I wonder if Hyundai is planning a V-8 for their new mid-sizer. I bet not!
You ask too much of us

Treat the Gladiator like the 1500 Ram , 5.7 is a $3500.00 option over the 3.6 . Sounds reasonable to me

Well in that case we need some volunteers to get a 5.7 installed in their Gladiators so we can smash them into a wall at speed. You will be constipated with oodles and oodles of sticker packages and an upgraded Korean tool kit!!!! Please sign up below:

I have been extremely happy with the 3.0 diesels in my JL and Jt. Plenty of torque with fuel economy as well. No need for a V8.
So why isnt it still offered 🤔

Crashing your own aftermarket install won't qualify as the OEM crash testing anyway. If crash testing prohibited manufacturers from building v8 trucks there wouldn't be any. Only a fool thinks they wouldn't sell enough at a $3500 markup to pay for it. Even at a $10k markup they would easily. My JT will get a v8 swap at $30k+ when the 3.6L dies... because they don't offer a v8 from the factory. Myself and thousands of others are in the same boat. We'd all by new trucks instead if they were offered.

They can't build 5.7Ls fast enough to keep up with the demand in all the models they put then back in from what I've read. Assuming the next administration is v8 friendly like this 1 I'd bet the next generation gladiator gets one. Or the Colorado and ranger do and they kill off the gladiator altogether. The ecodiesel was a warranty nightmare with the fuel pumps and overheating especially when towing heavy which is why it's not coming back.

Buyers chose poorly, demand dropped, engine discontinued.
But if you are a diesel owner, you know what you have,
