Keep it in neutral - no strain on the parking pawl(sp?) with the trans in neutral

In that situation, then, lightly holding the power brakes, while also gradually accelerating can provide enough resistance to make the non-spinning tires move and shift torque to the proper tires. You can also do it with a stick shift, but, you have to let the clutch out in gear, so, it is better to try it in low lock (reduced speed) since you do not have a torque convertor to gradually lay on the power. From what I could tell, he hit that ditch at just the wrong angle. Neither the front right or rear left tire had traction. yes, it was a JK but I don't know what year and I didn't see his interior.
If they can hear over the sound of the snapping tie rods.I'm sure on a Bronco forum somewhere, this is being talked about.
So you don't put a load on the parking pawl, which is not designed for that kind of stress. Why be in neutral vs park?
This works really well with limited slips, but not so well with totally open diffs. Mainly because the extra torque that is transferred to the tire with the grip that isn't spinning exactly equals the torque that the brake applied to that wheel is applying via the brakes. In that situation, then, lightly holding the power brakes, while also gradually accelerating can provide enough resistance to make the non-spinning tires move and shift torque to the proper tires. The jks have BLD too, but BLD only works if the other tires have fairly solid traction, most likely he had close to no traction on the other 2 as well. I see it a lot out here in the sand and mud where they have 1 ok traction tire but the BLD just won't let that tire dig enough to really get going and cuts power too early so they slowly hop out or worse just dig. This works really well with limited slips, but not so well with totally open diffs. LSDs have a multiplying factor. so it works well.
Either way, I'm still surprised the BLD didn't do its magic. But then again this JK Unlimited may not have had it.
