We all obsess over the obvious stuff — headlights, ditch lights, roof bars — but some of the most useful lighting mods are the ones nobody flexes. For me, it’s interior lighting and reverse lighting. Dash lights were a pain to get to, but the difference at night is huge. Clean, bright, functional. Reverse aux lights though? That’s next-level practicality. First time backing up in the dark with real visibility, it completely changes how you use the truck.

So what’s your underrated winner? What lighting mod surprised you the most in terms of usefulness? Bonus points if you’ve got photos!

I hooked up your bumper reverse lights to the backup lights but keep thinking I want to use them when not in reverse (setting up camp). Is there a way to do both at the same time?
Yes — it’s possible! The easiest way is to add a relay. That lets the lights still come on in reverse, and gives you manual control for things like setting up camp. If you have aux switches, you can tie the relay into one of those. If you don’t, you can still use a simple manual switch and pull power from an ignition-on fuse so the lights only work when the truck is on. It’s a little extra wiring, but very doable.

Should be something like this. Its been a while since I did this on my truck. In my truck one switch locks the rear lights out and another switch activates them regardless of gear position - so this may be slightly different than how mine is.

Same basic function can be achieved with diodes depending on amp draw of the accessory and the rating on the diodes. This allows multiple sources to feed one item without backfeeding into the other power sources.

If you have the factory aux switches, then hook them to that. They have relays built in. No need to add one.

Not sure, so double check me here. But I think you need to feed into a relay like ChrisNLA described to keep the circuits separated, even with the relay on the AUX wires. Otherwise there is a loop with the backup wires and the AUX line. Something like that. Wiring gurus need to weigh in.

When I need to do that I just put it into reverse, set the parking brake and chock a wheel. Daylight!!

LED strip under my hood. Surprisingly bright, makes working/navigating in the engine at night a breeze. Switch is attached to my 813 Fab ARB plate, next to my air chuck and tank purge.

Nice! How do you like the hood struts? I've thought about it, but I'm short, so I don't feel like climbing on the bumper every time to close the hood. I suppose I could do the awkward side hood close.

Probably one of the most useful mods, actually. It’s just something that does its job in the background, to the point that I don’t think about it anymore, but couldn’t imagine not having it. Granted, I’m constantly under the hood tweaking things, but not having to lift it and not having the stand in the way make it totally worth it.

I've never used the hood prop on any of my Jeeps. That's why you lean the hood against the windshield. More room to work when the hood isn't in the way.

That's also an option, but I have A-pillar mounts that prevent that.

Been thinking about these lately but was wondering how effective they really are vs the amount of reflections that come back at you. Wondering if grill guard lighting would be clearer in like dust, snow or fog conditions.
