My third brake light went out a while ago.
After opening the tailgate and inspecting the wiring, it seems the culprit is the light itself.
I am able to push the connector in with enough pressure to have the light turn on, but the slightest movement of the cable will cause the light to stop working.

Apparently some users here have had the same experience even after replacing the unit with a factory one.

Has anybody tried the Dorman 923-297?

Many here have had the exact same issue. I replaced mine and the new one worked out fine.
If I had to do it again, I would just tear out the insides and put in a red LED strip, solder the plug and fill the light with a clear epoxy. I think someone here did something similar.

The dorman looks to be $100. It's been a few years, but I don't recall paying nearly that much for the OEM replacement.

Oem 68338388AB or the revised number 68338388AC. Both are less than $100.

Watching this thread because mine has been out for a minute. Kind of liking the sequential one here.

Looks like RockAuto has the Dorman light listed for $60. (Link)

The Seequenced lights look good and offer a lot of customization, but a bit pricey starting at $210.

Mine was replaced within a year after purchase. Took it twice to the dealer and they "fixed it". Third time they replaced it and it's been fine since. Someone on here found there is a soldering defect in his which caused his to not work... Guessing the same with mine too because I looked at the "repairs" and found they seemed to know the issue and tried to do a half fast fix

I like that setup. I did install a brake strobe module on my CHMSL but I like the show mode on that one.

Any reason you didn't get the tazor? The tazor has an option for the strobing 3 brake light. It's because of this I found out my light wasn't working. I got use to seeing the strobe when I backed up to my garage and one day It threw me of when I didn't see the strobe.

Not a fan of the Tazer in general. Do not like the idea of a device that filters software message traffic in real time for the active functions. Plus the marry and unmarry for dealership service is something I do not want to mess with.

That's kind of a garbage-level installation. One of those cheap wire taps is already not to my liking, but having it sit down low, outside and at the spot most prone to salt, dust, and crud is asking for corrosion to get into that expensive OE wiring harness.

The previous owner or original selling dealer installed one of those cheap brake light modulators with a wire tap inside the tailgate of my truck. I ended up having to replace the entire tailgate subharness.

Hard pass.

I see what you are saying. I'll more than likely pass myself, especially the $200 plus price tag.

I have a "Seequenced" third brake light. I like it. You can have them reprogram it whenever too. I chose to have the three "clearance dots" when the running lights are on. I've had it for almost year, no issues.
