So I’m an idiot and hoping someone can help. I have a gladiator sport s stock ride height. I had bought Firestone destination XT tires. The max PSI is 80 and there set at 36 now. Should E rated tires be higher then the door says, lower or am I fine? Thanks

There are a LOT of opinions here on tires and tire pressure...so buckle up.

If the tires are the same size as your OEM ones, then 36 is fine. I prefer the feel of my tires at 38 cold...and a mess of people on here run theirs at 30 or some crazy low number. So id start with the OEM pressure and then experiment if you feel the need.

If you dont care to play with the pressure, then you are safe and fine at 36.

@Discount Tire can probably elaborate before too many others start in on the dog pile.

Your call. Might be a squirmy ride at 80psi.? You can also do a chalk test to see what works.

You can also call the tire manufacturers customer service and they should be able to tell you what, for your specific tire, the minimum tire pressure is for your vehicles fully loaded weight. I have done this before and it will give you a starting point.

Your best bet, do the chalk test. Just Google videos for tire chalk test. The chalk don't lie.

For what it's worth, cuz @Gren71 is a scaredy cat, I'm running my 35 x 12.50's at 28 psi for the winter. Cuts MPG's down, but hidden slick spots, snow, ice, don't bother me much. When it warms up, I go to 32 psi.

It depends on how much weight you got added to it but stock you can get away with a lower PSI. I ran my 35's the were e rated at 39 psi and the truck drove and rode great. Have the 37's at 34 psi. Both rode and drove great and were wearing great. My 37 Kanati Trail Hogs only have 2/10ths of wear after 18,000 miles. You be the judge but if the PSI is to low based on the weight your tires are gonna wear out faster, especially if it's a daily driver

So…Falken AT
Factory tire Lt285/70r17…32.8” tall
….6ply….11.1” wide….2755lbs@50psi
63.7lbs.weight….C rated

Falken AT LT255/80R-17..33.1”tall
….10ply….10” wide…3195lbs @80psi
52.5lbs weight….E rated

So I run at 36-37psi, Mojave rated at 6200lbs. GVW, if I get new tires would I run the skinner tire at 37-38psi also, a tire store or Falken would have a calculation to show what PSI should be? Not too many 255/80 load range C tires or even light weight, seems like perhaps a good idea…..Jack

This is all fine & dandy, but the stock tires are not Light Truck (LT) tires.
The primary difference is in the tire's construction. What used to be a load range C tire has a lighter-duty construction the a load range D or E (LT) tire.
BTW, load range has been superseded by Load Index ( https://simpletire.com/learn/tire-buying-guides/the-load-rating#:~:text=The tire load rating refers to the amount, has a significant amount of weight to support. )
Anyway, an LT tire can be inflated to a higher pressure (typically 75-85 PSI) to carry more weight.
But, it doesn't have to run that high.
I like the suggestion of the chalk test.

Whats great is I said that as a joke and you’re legit running below 30psi! Haha not that there’s anything wrong with that, just comical.

on my jku i ran my 35s around 32 year round, so i get it.
