Received an email from Tom at RLD Design USA. He sent over some more pictures and an email to address some questions/concerns about the RLD Canopy. Pretty happy for the people that may have Gen1 canopies and not be completely happy them in terms of fit. I'll post the photos also. Below is the email from RLD Design:

Thank you all for your interest in RLD Design canopies. To answer some questions:
1) We air-freighted one v2 canopy to test-fit and the first two shipments are on the water, but due to the freight timelines we will not have them until March. We had one shipment that was due by the end of January but the drayage firm in South Africa screwed up badly and that container has now been pushed to March as well.
2) We do understand that the v1 canopy may or may not have met customers’ expectations with fitment. We have actually gotten both very positive feedback, and some negative. We regret this is just the type of thing that occurs with R&D when developing a completely new product. We do want to be sure EVERY customer is satisfied though, so if any customers with v1 canopies are unsatisfied we are offering a completely free replacement to a v2 canopy. Please contact your dealer or us directly.
3) There has been some discussion around the material used in our canopies, and some confusion. The stainless steel we use is not the same stainless that is used in say, common stainless nuts and bolts. It is referred to as “Structural stainless”. The more common stainless most people are familiar with is too soft and not strong enough for our uses.
4) The Gladiator canopy weighs 170 lbs - about 15-20 lbs. heavier than the comparable aluminum canopy on the market, and significantly stronger. There are many other benefits of steel over aluminum as well, including repairability, no seam and weld fatigue, and much less frailty over time with stress due to vibration and shock.

One area of interest I have not seen discussed so far is the hinges. RLD has small exterior hinges. May not be that secure. But anyone can smash a window way easier than removing the hinges. What may be different is water shedding when doors are open in the rain. It looks as if the Alu Cab will shed water whereas the RLD will just drip right through that gap between the door and top. As you can see in this photo with the door open water will hit it and run right into that opening and into the bed. Have to keep the doors closed in rain or add a tarp (which I frequently do anyway).

i forgot about that.....Alu-Cab has a single hinge the whole length of each door, not sure if it'll stop dripping, but probably better than it being open.

Their website shows an all white in the photos but that's not offered in the color selection. That an omission on their part?

When I ordered mine the option for solid white was available. When I received it the paper work showed all white. But no. It was Black withWhite doors. I could have returned it. But chose not to. With Gen2 now I wish I had.

Does the full top fold under the tonneau when not in use? IE you always have both and just put up the one you need? If so I may have to grab one, that's about ideal for me. One of the things I hate, even though they're fairly easy to install and remove, is having to store various tops and accessories when they're not installed.

Fas-top. I got it installed, required modifying the brackets by cutting ~1 inch off of them to fit the trail rails.

So far I like it, I didn't realize the full topper could be locked but it has straps to hold the zippers that are inaccessible when the tailgate is closed, so it's as secure as the tonneau.

Any pics of what you had to cut?

I'm planning to order in the next week or two and could definitely use as much insight as possible. Thanks!

Original on the left, cut on the right. About a minute for each bracket (x4) with a cut off wheel.

They didn't send the Tacoma brackets, but I realized pretty quickly that the bed brackets would work by just shortening them.
