Tried searching but didn't find a direct answer. I have a 22 Glad and the new TMPS is backordered past 30 days. My wheels, tires and lift are either here or almost here. Im inpatient and just want to get started building. If I go ahead and get the tires mounted and balanced, can I add the TPMS when they come in eventually? Or is it better to do it before?

Another option is pulling the sensors from my stock tires, but there seems to moxed opinions on that.

I run 315 K02s without sensors for years on my JKU, so not the biggest deal in the scheme of things. Tazer gets her this week.

Thoughts?

Run them without isn’t an issue. Tazer to turn off the idiot light. Quadratec has or had the new sensors in stock. Like $30 each.

If tires are mounted, one bead will need to be broken loose to install the new TPMS sensor from the inside of the wheel. Curious what the opinions are regarding using your existing TPMS sensors on your new wheels? Yes, they eventually get old and the internal battery dies, but they usually last 5-10 years.

Buy the sensors where the tires are mounted and balanced. Then they will be responsible for making sure it is the correct sensors and that they work.

I ordered them from Quadratec but don't have any faith that they're actually in stock. I'll be happily proven wrong though. I haven't seen any tracking for other order through them last week yet either.

Unfortunately, none of the dealers around here had them either and all confirmed what Benny had said regarding the shortage and 30+ backlog.

Some of this depends on how the tire dealer feels about federal law.
If you remove the sensors, they can work on it but they can't take a vehicle with working TPMS and send it out the door without working TPMS.
Most dealers don't give a crap about any laws and will do whatever you tell them to do, but a couple of them around here will tell you to go elsewhere.

I swapped mine over since there was a 50/50 chance whoever bought my old wheels and tires would end up needing to buy the updated sensors anyway.

You can yank the stockers and add them to the new set as i've done it before in the past and was flawless.

I ended up ordering through Quadratec since I plan on selling the stock wheels. Although I probably should have just transferred them over.

Quadratec's shop wasn't wrong. They actually shipped out this morning even though I'm still waiting on a bunch of other stuff from them.

As a slight aside, if you decide to run without them for now, are you planning to just use standard valve stems or did you get metal ones that are ready to accept a sensor? The reason I ask is because due to a mishap on my other car, metal stems were installed without sensors which resulted in the retaining screw coming loose on one of them and bouncing around inside the rim. Just FYI.
