No need to point out the obvious they have the chance to evaluate it and be as thorough or as lazy as they want when making you the offer. If the vehicle is not profitable to resell at what they offer most of the time they already have enough margin in it or are going to fudge the price or try adding something elsewhere no need to feel guilty by not giving them a condition report .

I would trade mine in on a 6 speed JLU if I didn’t tow with it. Better power to weight ratio, better off road, much shorter for tight parking, and I want that power top option.

I see you have a 2020 model but excuse me if I overlooked it, but I don't see your mileage on your trade-in. Being 5 or 6 years old and with whatever mileage you have, the dealer may not even keep it but is sending it to auction. This is especially the case in larger urban areas where a "local trade" really means nothing. A small town place may be more interested in retaining it for resale and using that as a selling point. If you are planning on using that dealer for service on the next one, they "may" remember you but that is very unlikely.

At a larger dealership, once you trade it in, you are little more than a number anyway and any connection to you and a car you traded in the past is gone. Do you really think the saleshole you are buying the new Jeep from really gives a rat's ass about the condition of the car? He just wants you to get as much as you can so he can get the deal done. Then they'll move it to the back, write a number in big letters on the windshield, and park it next to 10 or 20 others that have been traded in the past day or two waiting for their trip to the auction.

I would consider the dealer or type of dealer in my decision and likely would make no other statements unless I was asked, which a larger dealer will not typically do.

Trading my Jeep gladiator in on a new wrangler and it currently needs new rocker arms I’m assuming as it ticks when accelerating. Should I be up front or just let the dealership do its evaluation? Does anyone know how much they will take of the trade in value
Are you an expert mechanic trained on the 3.6? No? Then, there is nothing you need to proffer to the dealership.

I won’t hide something or be dishonest. But no reason to show all your cards. This is a negotiation. I just say straight out, “I feel like I’m getting close to needing some expensive maintenance work done, so it’s time to trade before it’s required”. No dealer has ever cared in the least. They’re about to sell a car, and even if they need to fix a vehicle before resale, or auction it, they’re going to make money.

there's literally no need to say this. only thing you need to say is I want a new vehicle. the stealerships need to to do their own due diligence.

I think you are being a bit harsh and implying that non-disclosure of certain information equates to a lack of a conscience.

As I was stating earlier, I think in this case, one's conscience can be affected by who is purchasing it. In my case, if I was selling something to an individual (whether I knew them or not) or someone here on the board or whoever, I tend to over-state any known flaws or defects. I have even mentioned problems that "could" develop or know issues with that particular model. I remember telling a guy about the power window issue in an older Durango I was selling. I bought a couple extra ones on sale knowing that they tend to break after about 5 years and need to be replaced (I had already replaced each one at least once). I was including the spares as part of the deal.

Selling something to a dealer that I don't know, doesn't know me, is trying to squeeze every dime out of me, and is likely getting rid of it in the same manner I am getting rid of it .... is..... well, at least in my mind, much different.

Conversely, I would never lie to anyone about the vehicle such as giving false information when asked if the airbag has even been deployed, has it been in an accident, etc.

I think the whole issue about conscious-related activities really comes down to the individual and the meaning of the word "conscious." It certainly does not infer that everyone will have the same thoughts or actions based on various sets of circumstances or situations. That's why many things are a "matter of conscience."

That’s why I said “you do you”. The entire existence of this thread is about people deciding whether or not to be honest in whatever way they frame that for themselves. If you need to ask, you’ve already answered your own question.

Parking the gladiator is challenging sometimes. I would trade for a 4xe Rubicon if i didn't tow and plan on buying a larger POP up soon. The only thing i really gruff over is my MPG. 14-16 on a good day is rough when i drive 60 miles a day round trip just to work, so my wife drives it and i have the Hyundai.

I will also add that i am the only one in my family who thinks the Gladiator is comfortable too. I am also more favorable to the 2 door over a 4 door but family needs the space and teh camper. I could just sleep on the ground with a blanket and a tarp to stay dry.

OP, I think you should list the other Jeep features: death wobble, leaky rear window, unexplained coolant consumption, paint peeling/corrosion, pulls to the right, rough idle, etc. Just kidding. Good luck with your trade in.
